Users appreciated the Calgary Herald app for its local news and usability before recent updates. However, multiple reviews complain about the app's slow loading times, paywalls restricting access to most articles, bugs causing black screens, and poor navigation that resets scroll position after reading articles. Additionally, many note the app is often late updating news and sometimes does not load new content at all, leading to uninstallations and switching to other news sources.

Previously provided good local news content before updates

Most articles are now behind a paywall requiring costly subscription
Articles often fail to load properly, showing black screens or incomplete content
Returning to article list after reading resets scroll position to the top, causing frustration
App frequently does not update content timely, with delays of 30 minutes to hours and sometimes repeating same stories

Recent reviews

I love the actual Calgary Herald and when it doesn't or cannot be delivered to my door. I'll accept the digital version. I still prefer to keep one or at least a few of my fellow Canadians employed. I still buy the print version when I'm around as I believe everyone from the press room to the paper mill should be able to keep there job. I just wish with the 2 different papers, Sun and Herald that they'd have alil autonomy between them both.

I appreciate having local news from the Calgary Herald. I specifically enjoy reading the "On The Road" stories by Mike Drew. It' so nice to spend a morning drinking coffee and reading about nature in this beautiful province. I look forward to it everytime it comes out and is one of the main reasons I keep my subscription. The app itself is pretty slow, takes ahwile for the stories to load as I'm scrolling down through them. That can be frustrating, but hopefully something that is easily fixable.
