SVXConnect Android

SVXConnect

By: RF Guru
Amateur radio reflector voice client. Push-to-talk over SvxLink reflectors

Features & Capabilities

SVXConnect is a push-to-talk voice client for the SvxLink amateur radio
reflector network. It lets licensed operators join talkgroups, monitor
multiple groups at once, and transmit voice over IP — all from an Android
phone, no extra hardware required.

Designed for amateur radio operators

SVXConnect is intended for licensed amateur radio operators. You connect
to a reflector you have access to, identify with your call sign, and
exchange Opus-encoded voice with other operators on the network. On first
connection the app generates an RSA key and certificate signing request on
your device; the sysop signs it and your client certificate is then used
for every future session.

Features

• Push-to-talk voice with on-screen button (tap-to-toggle or press-and-hold,
selectable in settings)
• Talkgroup switching with a configurable favourites list
• Monitor multiple talkgroups simultaneously, with priority preemption
• Live activity view of who is talking on which group
• Reflector map showing nearby nodes (OpenStreetMap tiles, no API key
required)
• Automatic location reporting (GPS via Google Play services, with manual
override)
• Foreground audio service so transmission keeps working when the screen
is off
• Opus codec for clean low-bitrate audio
• AES-128-GCM and HMAC-SHA1 authentication for the protocol layer
• Compatible with the standard SvxLink reflector protocol and the enhanced
WebSocket feed used by RF.Guru reflectors

What you need

• A licensed amateur radio call sign
• Access to a SvxLink-compatible reflector (host, port, and sign-off from
the sysop)
• An Android device running Android 8.0 or later

Privacy

SVXConnect contains no advertising, no analytics, and no third-party
tracking SDKs. Audio is captured only while you press the PTT button and
is sent directly to your configured reflector — never recorded or stored.
Your call sign, certificate, and settings stay on the device. Location is
shared only with your reflector (for the map view) and, as a fallback,
with ipwho.is when GPS is unavailable.

The full privacy policy is linked from this listing.

Acknowledgements

SVXConnect is built by RF.Guru. The protocol implementation interoperates
with SvxLink, which is the work of Tobias Blomberg (SM0SVX) and
contributors. Map tiles are provided by OpenStreetMap. Opus codec support
uses Concentus, a pure-Java port of libopus.
