If someone can explain to me why the hell I need to download and pay into an app which requires login, Bluetooth, and precise location, just so that the start button will work on the washing machine, is a good idea when the machine could just have a card scanner and be done, I would greatly appreciate it. This is the most unnecessary, inconvenient, and frankly obnoxious setup I have ever had the misfortune to encounter.

Just doesn't work. You click the registration button and the app crashes. Although there is a tab called registration on the website it isn't acctually for registering but instead for searching for locations which is dumb because if you're trying to use the app then you obviously already know the info about your location. I can't be bothered trying to contact support based on the other reviews I've read.
