2026-08-13	Ph*****	wouldn't recommend for japanese for beginners. as an example of an issue, if you use flashcards for words, you'll initially be shown the image, kanji, kana, and translation. when tested later, you'll see the picture and need to select the correct kanji. this complicates things a lot, as the writing system in japanese is a huge barrier, and putting that kanji barrier in front of recognition of simple words slows things down a lot. better off just using anki.

2026-07-13	Da*****	The speech analysis is BS. I accidentally said a completely wrong word and it gave me a green score for my pronunciation. I thought that was strange, so I started saying random words. IT STILL gave me "feedback" that sounded realistic, like about the way I pronounced a certain vowel or the pitch in the syllable. The pronunciation feedback was the key selling point for me and now I paid a whole year subscription for a scam!

2026-05-17	Ma*****	learned Japanese with this app a few years ago - it was glitchy, but at all very nice and useful. Everything in order, step by step learning, starting with pronouncination. Now started French: the app filled with AI slop and algorithm of learning the language became ... awful. like any other app with a bunch of adds, useless sections, no pronouncination lessons in the beginning. really wish they allowed users to reverse the 'new releases'

The AI images for some words can change over time which will trip you up on reviews. Numbers are images of things you have to count or worse images that mean something else (image for 11 had 9 pencils and when I tried to change it all the images offered came from Stranger Things). I don't mind repeating words in lessons but I find I build up a lot of duplicate flash cards.

Probably why it is not for everyone. There is not an entire path to follow beyond the basics. The app relies on you to know, what you want to learn, as far as I can see. There was an issue after an update, however, they fixed it fairly fast. Not perfect, but very very good. Worth every penny.
