BlockPause: App & Screen Time

Use distracting apps in controlled sessions, not endlessly and not never.

BlockPause is an app blocker and screen-time tool that helps you pause before opening distracting apps, stay within intentional limits, and take compulsory breaks between sessions.

CONTROL APP USAGE

- Set limits for individual apps or shared app groups.
- Create a maximum time for each session.
- Add a compulsory break after every completed session.
- Set a separate daily screen-time maximum.
- Pause one rule or app group without stopping all tracking.
- Automatically block further use when the daily limit is reached.

PAUSE BEFORE OPENING

Add an opening countdown before selected apps become available. Display your own reminder, such as "Do I really need to open this now?", and reconsider the habit before continuing.

FOCUS AND BLOCKING TOOLS

- Focus Now blocks selected apps for an immediate focus period.
- Scroll Pause adds recurring breaks without requiring a daily limit.
- Blocking templates provide starting points for focus, study, sleep, app locking, and authorized parental use.
- Scheduled rules can activate on selected days and times.
- Website and keyword rules block selected addresses in supported browsers.
- Optional adult-site protection checks supported browser addresses locally.
- Guardian protection can require both the user passcode and an authorized Guardian PIN before a protected rule is weakened.

PROGRESS AND PRIVACY

Review selected-app usage, completed sessions, breaks, blocked attempts, and recent progress. Usage records and rule settings remain on the device by default. BlockPause does not sell app-usage or browsing data.

HOW BLOCKPAUSE USES ACCESSIBILITYSERVICE

BlockPause is not an accessibility tool. It uses Android's AccessibilityService API as part of its core app- and website-blocking functionality.

When tracking is active, AccessibilityService detects when an app selected by the user comes to the foreground. This allows BlockPause to show the user's optional opening countdown and promptly apply an active session break, daily limit, Focus Now rule, blocking template, or other user-created restriction.

Website blocking is separate and optional. If the user enables it, AccessibilityService reads only the current address-bar URL in a supported browser and compares it on the device with the domains, keywords, or adult-site rule selected by the user. Browser addresses are processed temporarily for this comparison and are not saved or transmitted.

BlockPause does not use AccessibilityService to read messages, passwords, contacts, page contents, or arbitrary typed text. App foreground events and supported-browser address-bar values are not used for advertising and are not sent to analytics providers.

Before Android Accessibility settings are opened, BlockPause shows an in-app explanation of what the service does. The user may decline and can turn the service off in Android settings. Without Accessibility, immediate app and website enforcement will not operate reliably.

OTHER ANDROID CAPABILITIES

BlockPause uses Usage Access to calculate selected-app usage time, Display over other apps to present opening, break, and block screens, and Notifications to keep tracking visible. Optional Device Admin provides user-enabled uninstall protection. These capabilities are used only to apply protections deliberately configured by the device owner or an authorized parent or Guardian.
