Review summary

Embody is praised for its simple, privacy-focused design with no subscription barriers and accurate cycle predictions. Many appreciate its soothing aesthetic and suitability for cycle beginners. However, multiple users report serious issues with handling irregular cycles, inability to correct predictions, data loss after updates, and bugs affecting journaling and navigation. Some find the app's language choice (e.g., 'menstruators') alienating. Overall, while promising and privacy-conscious, the app needs improvements for flexibility, data reliability, and inclusivity.
Pros
  • The app has a simple, clean, and modern design with a nice, 'comfy' vibe that is less overwhelming than other period trackers.
  • Privacy is highly valued; the app keeps data local without requesting Wi-Fi permissions and does not sell user information.
  • The app is free to use without subscription blocks on features, making it accessible.
  • Accurate predictions that improve with use were mentioned, as well as clear communication of cycle phases.
  • The app is suitable and helpful for users with little knowledge about their cycles and for younger users learning about their bodies.
Cons
  • Lack of flexibility for users with irregular cycles; the app does not allow correcting predictions with accurate start/end dates.
  • Data loss issues after updates, where previously logged period data disappears, causing frustration.
  • Inability to track and log periods properly, especially if users don't know cycle or period length initially, making the app stressful or inaccurate.
  • Some users experienced bugs, such as journal entries being deleted and navigation difficulties, particularly on older phones.
  • The app's terminology, such as using 'menstruators' instead of 'women,' is considered offensive and alienating by some users.

It would be nice to have an option for a smaller widget! It's just a little too big right now lol

Love the app, I noticed that you can put your temperature in it and I would like to see more temperature tracking abilities, like a temperature graph, I use bbt to track things like ovulation and pregnancy and I can't use this app to do so.

Absolutely love this app already. The fact that it's woman made and keeps my info private given our post-roe nation. Thank you so much. I'm glad I found this and can't wait to spread the word.

I had been enjoying this app but I just updated it and my previously tracked period days no longer show up at all. I have very inconsistent periods so it was nice to keep track of my cycle in one place without feeling my information was being sold. But now that my logged days have seemingly been erased, I've lost months of carefully keeping up with my cycle. It's just very disappointing.

It's simple, but it won't let me correct it's predictions with accurate start/end dates so if you don't have a religiously regular cycle it's essentially non functional.

I don't know how long my cycle lasts and idk how long my periods last for. That's why I got the app in the first place but there is no option for not knowing. This makes this app incredibly stressful for me as the data is incorrect and I don't seem to be able to even inform the app when I'm bleeding. Also the app seems to want to push self help advice down my throat and it makes me feel like it's not an app for disabled people who can't just go for a run like the app says.

This app calls women "menstruators", deeply dehumanizing and offensive. It's really a shame that an app about periods, which is a biological function exclusive to females, made by women on top of it, does not center women. We're only half the world's population

The app is super cute and has a very nice vibe to it sadly everytime I try and journal something after tracking my period for the day it deletes what I put also sometimes it's hard to navigate the app it may just be that I have an older phone but I hope that if this is some type of bug it gets fixed soon the app has lots of potential to be great!

The app is so "comfy" - I don't like overwhelming apps that just scream with ugly illustrations etc... this one's cool, the set-up takes less than a minute

I actually I really like it, I don't have a subscription that blocks certain features a way from me and I feel safe about my privacy
