HOW DAYBREAK BLOCKS APPS: THE ACCESSIBILITY SERVICE

Daybreak uses Android's AccessibilityService API. This is the core of how the app works — on Android it is the only way one app can put a shield in front of another.

What the service does:
• It detects which app is in the foreground. If that app is one you chose to block, and one of your focus windows or daily limits is active, Daybreak draws its shield screen over it.
• If you turn on website blocking, it reads the address (URL) bar of supported browsers, so a blocked site gets the same shield. It reads nothing else on the page.

What the service does not do:
• It does not read page content, messages, emails, keystrokes or passwords.
• It does not record audio or capture your screen.
• It does not change your device settings, and it never prevents you from disabling or uninstalling Daybreak.
• It does not collect, log, upload or sell anything. Every check happens on your device, in the moment.

You switch this on yourself in Android Settings, after Daybreak explains what it is for, and you can switch it off in the same place at any time. Daybreak simply stops blocking if you do.

Daybreak also asks for Usage Access, which is what powers your screen-time stats. Your alarm clock and your default messaging app are never blocked, so you can always be reached.
