Inside the gate, a brass chronometer pointer sweeps around concentric rings. Runes sit along those rings, and only the ones lit turquoise are yours to take. Tap while the pointer crosses a turquoise rune and the strike lands. Tap on a red one, or a fraction early, or a fraction late, and the mechanism takes the damage instead.

The red runes are decoys, and they are placed to catch the hand that has stopped watching and started reacting. This is the whole tension of the game: the pointer moves at a steady tempo that invites you to fall into rhythm, and rhythm is exactly what the decoys punish. You have to keep reading the ring, not just feeling the beat.

Every gate gives you a scored sequence to complete and three pressure seals to spend. A mistimed strike costs a seal. Lose all three before the sequence is done and the gate holds shut. Three mistakes sounds like room to breathe until the tempo climbs and you realise you spent two of them in the opening seconds.

There are fifteen gates. Each one turns the pointer faster than the last and narrows the window in which a strike counts, until the difference between a clean hit and a damaged mechanism is a slice of a second wide. The early gates teach you where the window sits. The later ones ask whether you can still find it when there is barely any window left.

Nothing here is hidden from you. The rings are visible, the runes declare themselves by colour, the pointer never lies about where it is going. The only question the gate asks is whether your hand arrives at the moment your eye already picked out.
