Live Roulette

A light on the water tells you what it is by its rhythm. Live Roulette is the bench where you read it.

1. Stand your watch 👀 and tap 👆 in time ⏱️ with the light. The tap pad builds a live train of flashes and eclipses, brackets the period, and prints the characteristic in the notation the light lists use: Fl(2) 10s, Q, Oc(3), Iso.

2. Read the ranked candidates. Six characteristics come back scored against your timing, each carrying how far it sits from what you tapped, so a rushed count reads as a near miss rather than a wrong ❌ answer.

3. Call the mark. Add the colour you saw and the topmark above it, and the candidates re-rank as you work. What survives is drawn for you as a mark, with its hull, its topmark, the side you pass it, the reasoning that kept it and the reasoning that ruled the others out.

4. File the reading. Every call lands in the watch 👀 register, and a finished reading slip goes to your camera 📷 roll as a perforated ticket carrying the notation, the mark and the passing side.

5. Drill it by daylight. Photograph a real mark in daylight and it becomes a prompt on the deck. Call it right and the card moves a box forward, call it wrong ❌ and it goes back, and the thirty-night grid shows the nights you stood.

Also aboard: sixteen canon marks across both buoyage regions, twelve structures and eight lantern optics drawn and described, a sector rose that works out which sector you are standing in and whether the light is obscured, and a watch 👀 kit you can tick off as you pack.
