User Reviews

Audubon Bird Guide is praised for its feature-rich experience, offline field guide, sightings logging, robust search, and helpful bird-call audio that aids identification and photography. It is generally seen as easy to use and free. However multiple reviewers report stability problems, with freezes and crashes (worse on tablets), data loss or inability to save and manage sightings, regression after updates, a restrictive identification flow, and degraded photos for ID. These issues recur, suggesting reliability and UX improvements are needed.
Pros
  • Comprehensive feature set including offline field guide, sightings logging, and robust search.
  • Bird call audio helps attract birds and improve identification and photography.
  • Easy to use with a straightforward setup.
  • Free to use and offers extensive bird information.
  • Helpful identification information and reference content.
Cons
  • Frequent freezes/crashes, especially on tablets.
  • Data loss or inability to save/view/edit saved sightings and locations.
  • Bugs and regressions after updates, reducing reliability and usability.
  • Identification flow that forces you to use only one criterion at a time (size or color), hindering the process.
  • Degraded or less useful photos for identification after updates.

(Updated) Entering a past date on a sighting works now! Love this app :)

The app has dramatically improved in the last year. The UI is much more compliant and adding sightings is as easy as it used to be. However, I still do not get any actual alerts for my, well, alert list; I have to open the app and go to my list and see if any sightings of my desired birds have been reported. Given all the trouble I have had with this app in the last couple years, this is a relatively small gripe that I can live with. Much better, Audubon! Keep up the good work!
