Abacus Experts

Abacus Experts is the learning app for students enrolled with Abacus Experts. It brings the soroban (Japanese abacus) to your Android phone with a structured curriculum, an on-screen abacus that students move bead by bead, and a clear view of how they are getting on.



WHAT STUDENTS CAN LEARN

The curriculum is organised into eight levels and 30 lessons:

• Foundation – meet the abacus, learn what each bead is worth, and read numbers up to 99

• Simple add & subtract – direct addition and subtraction on the rods

• Small friends – the friend-of-5 rules for adding and taking away

• Big friends – the friend-of-10 rules, carrying and borrowing across rods

• Mental abacus – picturing the frame and working sums without it

• Multiply & divide – groups, times tables, bigger products and exact division

• Competition speed – timed drills that build speed while keeping accuracy

• Grand master – long chains, larger products, long division and exam-style timed papers



KEY FEATURES

• Interactive abacus – tap the heaven and earth beads to set numbers and work sums on a real soroban layout

• Step-by-step walkthroughs – each lesson opens with a guided demonstration that students can step through at their own pace

• Instant feedback – every answer is checked straight away, and many wrong answers are followed by a bead-by-bead demonstration of the correct method

• Varied question types – set a number on the abacus, read a number from the frame, flash-card style "flash the frame" questions, mental sums, multiplication and division

• Timed lessons – selected lessons run against the clock, with a pause option where allowed

• Skill practice – drill any unlocked skill with a standard or timed run, with suggestions for skills worth another look

• Progress at a glance – daily streak, questions answered, accuracy, skills mastered and recent activity

• Achievements – earn badges such as First steps, Week warrior, Century and Speed star

• Level tests – view your level test results and scores

• Profile – see your name, programme, current level and account details



HOW THE LEARNING EXPERIENCE WORKS

1. Sign in with the mobile number and password linked to your Abacus Experts account.

2. Your dashboard shows your programme, the next lesson to continue, your streak and recent badges.

3. Each lesson starts with a short introduction and a guided walkthrough on the abacus.

4. Students then answer a set of questions – on the abacus, on a number keypad, or in their head, depending on the lesson.

5. Finishing a lesson saves it to your account, and you can try any lesson again whenever you like.



TWO PATHWAYS

• Junior Abacus (about ages 5–8) – shorter activities with more demonstration and repetition for first-time learners

• Senior Abacus (about ages 8–13) – a faster pathway for older beginners or children continuing earlier learning

Your pathway is set by the Abacus Experts team when you enrol, and the app shows the lessons, practice lengths and badges for that pathway.

PLEASE NOTE

• An Abacus Experts account is required. Accounts are created and set up on the Abacus Experts website, and new students need to be enrolled by the Abacus Experts team before they can sign in.

• Level tests are taken on the Abacus Experts website; results appear in the app once marked.

• Progress and mastery figures come from work recorded on the website. Practice runs done in the app are not yet counted towards them.

• An internet connection is needed to sign in and load lessons.

• The Privacy Policy and account deletion are available from the Profile screen.
