Review summary

Users appreciate the Food Diary app for its simplicity, manual entry, and color-coded food quality system, making it easy to track meals without calorie counting. However, common complaints include lack of support and updates, disorderly entries not sorted by date/time, no history tracking for past days, and missing professional features like portion control or syncing. Overall, the app serves well as a basic food diary but could benefit from new features and bug fixes to enhance usability and accuracy.
Pros
  • Simple and easy to use, suitable for users who want to track food without calorie counting.
  • Allows manual food entry without relying on large food databases.
  • Color coding system (red, yellow, green) provides a quick visual of food quality.
  • Allows tracking of meals with date and time stamps (though some want improvements).
  • Effective as a straightforward food diary for multiple user needs, including tracking picky eaters.
Cons
  • Lack of support and updates, leading to missing features and some bugs.
  • Entries are not consistently ordered by date or time, causing confusion.
  • The app resets daily without proper history or tracking over multiple days.
  • Inadequate time stamping (missing AM/PM) and lack of professional features like syncing or advanced reports.
  • Lacks portion size and snack weighting, leading to all foods being treated equally in analysis.

Loved this app, really wish it was still supported. It's helped me a lot over the years

Very simple which is just what I wanted. I'm not looking to count calories, just make healthy choices as much as possible. Having to 'log' it encourages me think twice before I reach for the junk food

I love the simplicity - I wanted only to track what I ate, not calories or serving size or anything else. My onkmly complaint, but a significant one, is that snacks are weighted the same as meals. I think they should onky count 25% or so.

This is just what I was after - a diary, somewhere to simply record my food without having to calorie count or find the food I want to add from a huge list or add the food I'm eating because it's not already on the list... you simply type in what you've had for which meal, date and time it (it defaults to the date and time you open it up) then you label it red (bad), yellow (ok) or green (good). It saves the entries for each day and lists them all so you can easily scroll through your meals and days.

It's decent, but would be considered more professional if it included am/pm time stamps, and listed entries in order by date and time.
