Features & Capabilities

liveBPM - Beat Detector

Sharpen your rhythmic skills with liveBPM, the ultimate tempo monitoring Chrome extension designed for musicians, drummers, bands, and DJs. This tool continuously detects beats through your microphone and displays an accurate, real-time tempo in beats per minute (BPM). Its reliable beat detection engine offers precision with an accuracy up to 0.1 BPM under ideal musical conditions such as constant tempo and clear rhythmic impulses.

liveBPM features a tempo curve visualization that charts tempo changes over selectable time intervals, ranging from 2 to 30 minutes. Advanced audio spectrum analysis via FFT enhances detection quality, making it more accessible and accurate than traditional BPM counters that rely on tapping. The extension is optimized for low battery usage, ensuring prolonged usage during practice sessions or live performances.

Ideal for professional use, liveBPM helps musicians maintain and improve timing accuracy, understand tempo variations, and enhance musical expression without the constraints of a traditional metronome. Controls include tempo freezing, resetting, target BPM adjustment, and zoom levels. For softer rhythms, clapping or an external microphone can improve detection. Elevate your musical timing and confidence with liveBPM today!

User Reviews

liveBPM is highly valued by musicians, especially drummers, for accurately detecting BPM and providing a real-time tempo graph that aids in practicing and live performances. Users appreciate its simplicity and the developer's responsiveness. However, the app suffers from being outdated with no recent updates, limiting BPM measurement above 200 and lacking modern features like tap tempo or data saving. Compatibility issues with newer Android versions and occasional bugs are noted as areas for improvement.
Pros
  • Accurately detects BPM quickly and reliably for various music styles and instruments, especially drums.
  • Provides a real-time tempo graph that helps musicians monitor their tempo dynamically during practice or live performances.
  • Helps musicians improve timing, consistency, and tempo awareness without relying on traditional metronomes.
  • Simple and easy-to-understand interface that allows users to focus on playing without distraction.
  • Developer is responsive and supportive to user feedback and issues.
Cons
  • App has not been updated since 2017 and is starting to show compatibility issues with newer Android versions.
  • Limited BPM range, typically maxing out at 200 BPM, which restricts usability for faster tempos.
  • Lacks advanced features found in other apps like tapping tempo, detailed BPM tracking, graph zooming, or saving graphs.
  • User interface and fonts are somewhat outdated and could use modernization.
  • Occasional bugs such as app crashing after several hours of use require force stop and relaunch.

I use this to a fault! probably my favorite most used app. I'm a working drummer and it has got me through so many gigs I can't even count. Especially when bonehead singers turn around and tell you you're rushing or dragging you could just point to the app 😃👍 New development is that when I switched to iPhone (under duress) now I don’t have access to the app anymore and it’s very disappointing. Any news when it will be available again????

Bought this last year after trying all the other apps. This one is the real deal folks! best $5 I've ever spent! 👍 One constructive feedback would be the fonts and UI could be more sleek.
