Bridgy Firefox

Bridgy

By: Ryan B
Bridgy connects your web site to social media. This extension adds Facebook support.

Features & Capabilities

Bridgy connects your web site to social media, as part of the IndieWeb. This extension provides backfeed for Facebook, ie pulls back comments and likes on your Facebook posts to your web site. See the Bridgy docs for more background and details.

Your web site needs to support IndieAuth. When you install the extension, it opens a Bridgy page for you to IndieAuth into your site. After that, it runs in the background, forwarding Facebook responses to Bridgy to send back to your site. You can see status info and poke it on the extension settings page.

This extension is not currently compatible with the Facebook Container extension. If you use that, you'll need to disable it. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Bridgy originally used Facebook's API to do this, but they later restricted that API. Fortunately users can still log into and use Facebook legitimately in their browser, so this extension lets them send their own data to Bridgy, automatically.

Attention: Facebook will delete your Instagram account without any notice when you use this add-on. I only got known what happened, after I tried to contact them via their "helpdesk" and a lawyer!

Is Bridgy Safe?

Risk impact
Risk impact measures the level of extra permissions an extension has access to. A low risk impact extension cannot do much harms, whereas a high risk impact extension can do a lot of damage like stealing your password, bypassing your security settings, and accessing your personal data. High risk impact extensions are not necessarily malicious. However, if they do turn malicious, they can be very harmful.

Bridgy requires a few sensitive permissions. Exercise caution before installing.
