Bookmark Detector

Detects and removes duplicate bookmark on add and shows a notification about it.

Bookmark Detector is a lightweight Chrome extension designed to help you maintain a clean and organized bookmark library by automatically detecting and removing duplicate bookmarks upon creation. Whenever you add a new bookmark, the extension checks for previously saved bookmarks with the same URL (ignoring differences after the '#' symbol) and removes duplicates instantly while notifying you about the action.

The extension includes a convenient on/off toggle, resetting with each browser restart, giving you control over its operation. It prioritizes your privacy by not storing or sending any data. Bookmark Detector is an essential tool for anyone looking to avoid clutter and maintain a streamlined browsing experience. The source code is openly available on GitHub, welcoming contributions and bug reports.

I don't know how to activate it, maybe it only works when adding new bookmarks? There is one thing i would like, I can't find it anywhere. it is a bookmark addon that goes through all your bookmarks and tells you first which ones work and which ones don't, because some bookmarks I've had for more than 20 years and they don't work anymore, only going through 500+ is a hassle to remove individually. Perhaps this could give option to auto search all bookmarks and in the background test them out to see if they are working or now malicious links instead. Testing if they not only work but if they are malicious links or not?

Extension safety

Risk impact
Risk impact measures the level of extra permissions an extension has access to. A low risk impact extension cannot do much harms, whereas a high risk impact extension can do a lot of damage like stealing your password, bypassing your security settings, and accessing your personal data. High risk impact extensions are not necessarily malicious. However, if they do turn malicious, they can be very harmful.

Bookmark Detector requires very minimum permissions.
