BookDAV Firefox

BookDAV

By: JB
Keep your Firefox bookmarks in sync across every machine you control—desktop, laptop, or lab box—without handing data to a third-party service. Point the extension at your WebDAV endpoint, pick the folder scope you want, and BookDAV handles the rest.

Features & Capabilities

Why homelab users choose BookDAV

  • Self-hosted storage – Store bookmark data on Nextcloud, nginx-dav, Apache, or any WebDAV‑capable appliance you already run.
  • Granular scope control – Sync your entire library, limit the job to the dedicated BookDAV folder, or select any folder with the built-in picker.
  • Background scheduling – Automatic syncs on a configurable interval, plus one-click manual syncs from the toolbar.
  • Data guardrails – Snapshot hashing and size checks refuse downloads that would wipe out most of your bookmarks.
  • Unified status panel – View the last action, last sync time, and WebDAV connection health directly in the popup.
  • No telemetry – BookDAV collects no usage, health, or crash data. Credentials remain local to your browser profile.

Quick setup

  1. Ensure your WebDAV server (Nextcloud, nginx, Apache, etc.) is reachable from each browser.
  2. Install BookDAV and open the Options page.
  3. Enter the WebDAV URL, remote JSON path, and credentials (if required).
  4. Choose the bookmark scope and sync interval that suit your workflow.
  5. Trigger a Sync now to seed your remote snapshot, then let the scheduled jobs keep every device aligned.
Take back control of your bookmarks—BookDAV is built for people who already run their own services and want a sync solution to match.

Is BookDAV Safe?

Risk impact
Risk impact measures the level of extra permissions an extension has access to. A low risk impact extension cannot do much harms, whereas a high risk impact extension can do a lot of damage like stealing your password, bypassing your security settings, and accessing your personal data. High risk impact extensions are not necessarily malicious. However, if they do turn malicious, they can be very harmful.

BookDAV requires very minimum permissions.
