Summary

Switch between multiple bookmark bars easily!

[WARNING] Update from Sep 2017: This extension is currently in beta - please back up your bookmarks before installation. I've received reports from users that they have lost bookmarks. Unfortunately, I don't have any way to recover them for you - you may try to locate them among your existing bookmarks if that happens. HOWEVER, I'm keen to fix this bug, and I need your help to provide me with the steps required to reproduce the issue. If anyone encounters this issue, I would really appreciate if you could provide me (via the SUPPORT section) with the following information:

  1. Chrome version number
  2. OS type and version number (e.g. Windows 10, Mac OS X 10.11)
  3. Version number of this extension (if you're using the latest, it's 2.1 as of now)
  4. Was it a fresh install?
  5. What were you doing with the extension before you lost bookmarks?*
  6. Any other relevant information that would help me with diagnosing the issue

*Emphasis on #5. If you could provide me step-by-step instructions on replicating the issue especially on a freshly installed Chrome, and I'm able to successfully replicate the issue from my end, I will be able to figure out the issue and fix the problem.

ok I have been trying to work with this. I like the concept and have been looking for something like it for a very long time. Chrome has only one bookmark bar and you gotta live with it, there are other solutions where you install an extension and you suddenly see more virtual bookmark rows but its virtual and looks messy. This is very good solution, clean if you manage it well. However it would have been the most perfect solution if it wasn't for the bookmarks being jumbled up as you switch from computer to computer. I use three computers, two of them in one area that I use simultaneously another in another. I try to close chrome browser to a switchmark bar that is empty like someone here suggested but I still get the messing up of bookmarks and I get frustrated because again I have to re-manage them instead of focusing on the work. I would very much appreciate if this switchmark concept fixes the issue revolving around the bookmarks being messed up as you use same account of chrome across multiple computers. Other than that, what a neat solution, thankyou for the extension. To toggle the bars via a shortcut I just go to extension page, scroll down and there you see link in the right side "Keyboard Shortcuts" and there I apply a shortcut

Absolutely good idea!

I've been using Switchmark for about a month now, and it's a solid app. Extremely useful, and (with the one exception noted below) almost totally reliable. I did have one experience of the links from one bar inexplicably moving to another bar (similar to the complaints made in other reviews), but it was not a random mixing. Rather, all the links from "Bar 1" got copied over to "Bar 3" (so Bar 3 ended up containing all the marks from Bar 1 and 3 together, and Bar 1 was left empty). It was easy to cut and paste them back where they belong, and it's never happened again (despite me trying to replicate the error every way I could think of). This happened while or around the general time I was manually reorganizing bookmarks by cutting and pasting them between the five bars I have, so maybe that had something to do with it. Again, I tried to replicate the error by doing this several different ways and couldn't get it to recur. I delayed writing this review until I became convinced that the app isn't just randomly moving things around, and that this didn't happen more than the one time. It's important to understand what this app is doing behind the scenes when using it. Basically, it creates a new folder called "Switchmark" under the "Other Bookmarks" folder. Then, it creates a distinct subfolder for each bar you implement, with the subfolders being named "1", "2", "3" and so forth (up to 8 total possible). When you click the bar-switching-button, it seems to perform the following actions, instantly, like a macro: 1. Cut all folders and bookmarks from the Chrome Bookmarks Bar folder. 2. Paste those folders and bookmarks into the Switchmark subfolder that corresponds to the current Switchmark bar number. 3. Cut all folders and bookmarks from the next sequential Switchmark bar folder. 4. Paste those folders and bookmarks into the Chrome Bookmarks Bar folder. Thus, at all times, one of the Switchmark subfolders will be empty (because its folders and bookmarks will be appearing in the Chrome Bookmarks Bar). Further, when adding new bookmarks it's important to ensure that you are tuned to the Switchmark bar you want the new bookmark to reside in. I'm wondering if this dynamic might be causing some of the confusion described in other comments. In short, this is a great app. It solved a big problem for me, and made Chrome much, much more useful as a central organizational tool. Many thanks to the developer - I'd send some money if there was a donation link.
