ImageZoom is a convenient Chrome extension that allows you to easily zoom images on any webpage by simply holding down the middle mouse button and moving the mouse left or right. It provides a seamless way to adjust image sizes, with the option to display the image URL and size. Please note that this extension is not compatible with laptops without a middle mouse button.

Install

to view Chrome-Stats data as you browse the Chrome Web Store.
Simply click on an image with the middle mouse button and move the mouse left (to zoom out/shrink) or right (to zoom in/enlarge). Release the button when you have the desired image size. (May not work for some images and some web sites.)
Update: the image url and size (in bytes, if can be determined) are now displayed.
Tip: To prevent opening a link associated with the image, move cursor up or down outside of the image.
Note: There'll NEVER be the right mouse button option! Please don't ask! Thank you!
IT WON'T WORK ON LAPTOPS W/O MIDDLE MOUSE BUTTON! DUH!
User reviews
One of the few zoom extensions working for me. Quickly done by using mouse wheel only.
--Issues: Often distorts/warps the images (e.g. at https://www.waz.de)
Unfortunately most extensions of this kind come with a problem. Zooming in will not expose the whole image, the magnified image stays covered by the surrounding page area and elements. Thus you rarely see the whole magnified image.
But I found an extension avoiding exactly those issues. It's now my final choice:

I really love this Extension, but it seems like this week it stopped working for some reason. Tried removing and adding it back, and still not working. I would love to see this very useful tool working again.
No idea why the average review score is low... but it has to be wrong.
This is a very useful feature and very simple to use, it's very potent and allows me to zoom in on images without modifying the zoom level for the entire website which might be slower on some clunky webpages.
Can't believe Chrome doesn't already have an in-built feature that is similar already. I reckon that the mouse shortcut wuold confuse anyone unaware of such a feature at first. Anyway, regardless of why this extension is needed, it is and I'm very thankful that it exists.
ImageZoom is risky to use as it requires a number of sensitive permissions that can
potentially harm your browser and steal your data. Exercise caution when installing this
