Bandwidth Hero Firefox

Bandwidth Hero

Saves data by compressing images on the page. Bandwidth Hero saves data by compressing all images on the page via data compression service which reduces image size by about 50%-75%.

Features & Capabilities

Bandwidth Hero is a Chrome extension designed to save data by compressing all images on web pages. It works by using a data compression service that downloads original images, converts them into low-resolution JPEGs, and serves them back to your browser. This reduces image sizes by approximately 50%-75%, helping users with limited data plans such as 3G or LTE to browse more efficiently.

Unlike similar tools like Google's Data Saver, Bandwidth Hero functions for both secure (HTTPS) and insecure (HTTP) URLs. The extension requires setting up the compression service on Heroku or a Node.js server. It is open-source and available for review and contribution on GitHub. Using the public compression service is subject to the extension's terms and conditions.

it requires you to have your own backend with a data compression server running on it. A SERVER. Like, you have to write your own backend for this extension to work. That's hilarious - if i was going to write my own image compression backend, why would i pair it with an extension made by some russian guy?
