Alt Cloud Checker

[DESCRIPTION] Alt Cloud is an open directory of cloud services that are genuinely transparent: public pricing, self-service signup, and a visible status page. Alt Cloud Checker tells you, at a glance, whether the site you're looking at is in the directory — and if it isn't, lets you suggest it with one click.

Five status indicators

The toolbar icon shows one of five states:

• 🟢 Listed (3/3) — meets all three transparency criteria
• 🟡 Listed (2/3) — partial; the popup tells you what's missing
• 🔵 Future Cloud — on the watch list, not yet meeting all criteria
• ➕ Not listed — one click to suggest it via a prefilled GitHub issue
• ⚪ Unchecked — internal pages, search engines, code hosts, social platforms

Service name, category chip, per-criterion transparency breakdown, and action buttons — view the entry on alt-cloud.org, report a correction, or (for Future Clouds) suggest they graduate. For unlisted sites, a one-click flow opens a prefilled GitHub submission you review before posting.

Three transparency criteria

To be fully listed, a service must meet all three:

1. Transparent public pricing — prices visible without signing up or contacting sales
2. Usage-based self-service signup — no sales call required to start
3. Production indicators — public SLA, status page, or uptime tracker

Privacy

The extension collects nothing and sends nothing. The sole network request is a daily fetch of the public directory at alt-cloud.org/clouds.json, cached locally for 24 hours. Page metadata (title, Open Graph tags, favicon) is read only when you open the popup on an unlisted site, used only to pre-fill the suggest form, and never transmitted automatically.
