CloudWarning Firefox

CloudWarning

CloudWarning is a transparency-focused Firefox add-on that alerts you whenever a website uses Cloudflare’s infrastructure.

Features & Capabilities

Many sites rely on Cloudflare for performance and security, but this comes at the cost of routing nearly all traffic through a third party often without users noticing. Because Cloudflare terminates TLS connections as a reverse proxy, it can technically see all data passing through, meaning the connection is not truly end-to-end encrypted.

The add-on scans each visited page for Cloudflare headers or resources and displays a clear warning when Cloudflare is involved. This helps users make informed decisions about their data especially on sites where they might submit personal information.

CloudWarning is not an anti-Cloudflare tool. It is a tool for digital sovereignty. By revealing hidden intermediaries and their potential legal obligations under U.S. law, it empowers users with the transparency needed to understand who handles their data and to act accordingly.

Is CloudWarning Safe?

Risk impact
Risk impact measures the level of extra permissions an extension has access to. A low risk impact extension cannot do much harms, whereas a high risk impact extension can do a lot of damage like stealing your password, bypassing your security settings, and accessing your personal data. High risk impact extensions are not necessarily malicious. However, if they do turn malicious, they can be very harmful.

CloudWarning requires some sensitive permissions that could impact your browser and data security. Exercise caution before installing.

Our algorithms are not perfect, and are subject to change as we discover new ways to detect malicious extensions. We recommend that you always exercise caution when installing a Firefox add-on.
