Silk - Privacy Pass Client

Client support for Privacy Pass anonymous authorization protocol.

Silk - Privacy Pass Client is a Chrome extension designed to enhance your online privacy by supporting the Privacy Pass anonymous authorization protocol. It issues unlinkable cryptographic tokens for websites that implement Privacy Pass, such as those protected by Cloudflare. This helps verify your legitimacy as a human user while preserving anonymity and privacy.

When visiting a website that requests a Privacy Pass token, Silk prompts you to complete a challenge. Upon successful completion, the extension obtains a token usable to improve your human signal without revealing your identity. This streamlined process ensures seamless integration with sites that deploy Privacy Pass while maintaining strong privacy protections. Users can refer to the FAQs and Known Issues sections for troubleshooting and detailed guidance.

User reviews

Silk - Privacy Pass Client once helped users avoid repetitive Cloudflare CAPTCHA challenges, making browsing smoother. However, many reviews note that the extension often fails now, causing infinite verification loops, repeated disruptive pop-ups, and crashes. Recent updates appear to have reduced its effectiveness, confusing users and leading to uninstallations. While some users still find it somewhat useful, the consensus is that it currently does not reliably perform its intended function.

  • Successfully blocks CAPTCHAs in some cases
  • Has been helpful and effective for some users in the past
  • Once worked well and saved user validation effort
  • Free and easy to install Chrome extension
  • Some users find it useful for certain browsing scenarios
Cons
  • Currently often fails to work with Cloudflare challenges, resulting in loops or timeouts
  • Frequently causes repeated pop-up interruptions, disrupting browsing
  • Sometimes crashes or becomes greyed out and non-functional
  • No longer provides passes as effectively as before after recent updates
  • Unclear or confusing how the extension operates and triggers validation

Not working anymore

This doesn't work with Cloudflare. It comes up, but times out and loops back to the Cloudflare 'verify you are human' doom loop.
