Oonascope

Oonascope turns one Android phone into a live camera you watch from another phone — a baby monitor, pet cam, or security camera you build yourself in seconds, with no subscription just to see the picture.

Each device gets its own permanent ID. Type another device's ID and you're watching its camera and hearing its sound, live. No accounts, sign-up, or wiring.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN — NOT SURVEILLANCE

Unlike cameras that stream to a company's cloud, Oonascope keeps your camera strictly between your own phones, end-to-end encrypted. Nobody connects without your approval on the camera phone; we can't see your feed, and there's no cloud or master key — not even for us.

WHY OONASCOPE

• Direct & encrypted — video and audio go directly between your devices over an encrypted WireGuard tunnel; if a direct link isn't possible, an encrypted relay forwards data it can't read.
• No account, ever — each device just generates its own anonymous ID.
• Camera + sound, live — see and hear the remote device in real time, with catch-up so it stays close to live.
• You approve every new connection — the first time a device asks to view your camera you get an "Allow?" prompt, with an "Always allow" option.

• Remote torch — turn the far device's flashlight on and off from the viewer.
• Date & time stamp — optionally show the camera's date/time on the video, live and in recordings (free).
• Efficient — the camera runs only while someone's watching; it's light on battery and data. Tune frame rate/bitrate in Settings, or keep it ready to reach after the screen locks.
• You're told when watched — the shared device shows "Someone is watching" and can chime on connect; stop sharing anytime with one tap.

Oonascope is free to watch and listen: each free session lasts up to 1 minute, then disconnects — reconnect right away. Premium ($4.99/month) adds:

• Unlimited viewing time — no 1-minute cutoff.
• Two-way audio — push-to-talk back to the remote device.
• Screenshots to your gallery.
• Local recording (a private DVR) — continuous 24/7 or triggered, at 720p, 1080p or 4K. Old clips roll off at a storage cap you set. Everything stays on the phone — never uploaded.
• Smart triggers — record only while motion, a person, or voice is detected (any mix). All detection runs on the phone.
• Your clip library — browse, play and share recordings in the app, or save any to your Videos gallery.
• Overheat & low-battery protection — always-on recording auto-pauses if the battery gets too hot or low, then resumes.

HOW YOUR CONNECTION WORKS (VPN)

Oonascope uses Android's VpnService to create the private, end-to-end-encrypted WireGuard tunnel that carries this app's own camera video and audio directly between your two devices. This tunnel IS the app's core function: every feature that moves data — watching the live camera, listening, two-way push-to-talk audio, the remote torch, and opening your saved recordings — travels only inside it, which is what lets us keep your video off our servers. Oonascope never routes, monitors, redirects, or manipulates other apps' traffic, never sends your traffic through another country, and never uses the VPN to collect data, track you, or serve ads.

WHAT OONASCOPE DOES NOT DO

Oonascope does not upload your camera to our servers, keep recordings in the cloud, or show ads. There is no company dashboard, operator override, or backdoor — access requires your on-device approval and the feed is end-to-end encrypted. Screenshots and recordings stay in your own gallery. Your device identity only helps your two devices find each other.
