AI Bookmark Tagger Firefox

AI Bookmark Tagger

Save bookmarks and get AI-generated tags (Gemini/OpenAI). Includes a viewer page with search, filters, and screenshots to manage your tagged bookmarks easily.

Features & Capabilities

This extension helps you organize your bookmarks using AI. When you save a page, it automatically generates relevant tags based on the content.

What it Does 🤔

  • AI Tagging: Click the button to save a page. The extension reads the content (using Readability.js) and asks an AI (Gemini, OpenAI, Anthropic, or Custom/Ollama) to suggest 2-5 tags.
  • Tag Storage (URL Method): Tags are added to the bookmark's URL like ?tag=example&tag=another. This is a workaround because Firefox doesn't currently sync native bookmark tags well across devices.
  • Your Choice of AI: Support for Google Gemini, OpenAI (ChatGPT), Anthropic (Claude), and Custom providers (like Ollama).
  • Control over Tags: Option to review and edit tags before saving the bookmark.
  • Model Selection: Dynamic model list updates based on the selected provider.
  • API Key: you keep control of your keys (stored locally).
  • Custom Prompt: You can tell the AI exactly how you want your tags generated.
  • Dedicated Folder: All tagged bookmarks go into a folder named "Bookmark-Tagger".
  • Screenshots 📸: A small screenshot of the page is saved locally so you can recognize it easily in the viewer.
  • Built-in Viewer:
  • A separate page to see all your tagged bookmarks.
  • Choose between a Table view or a Gallery view.
  • Search by title, URL, or tag.
  • Filter by tags (including 'untagged' or 'error') and Filter by Domain.
  • Sort by Date, Title, or Domain.
  • Bookmark Management 🛠️:
  • Edit or remove tags on existing bookmarks.
  • Retagging: Bulk retag selected bookmarks using the AI.
  • Archive items (hides them from main view).
  • Delete bookmarks.
  • Bulk actions for easier management.
  • Thumbnail Regeneration: Bulk regenerate thumbnails.
  • Duplicate Check: Prevents saving the same URL twice in the target folder.
How to Use It 🖱️
  1. On a page you want to save, click the extension icon.
  2. (Optional) If "Confirm Tags" is enabled, it analyzes the page and lets you edit the tags first.
  3. The bookmark is saved to the "Bookmark-Tagger" folder with tags and a screenshot.
  4. Use the viewer (link in the popup) to manage everything.
Setup Needed ⚙️
  • You need an API key for your chosen provider (Google AI Studio, OpenAI Platform, Anthropic Console).
  • For local AI (Ollama), ensure your server is running (usually http://localhost:11434).
  • Go to the extension's options page to configure keys and prompts.
Known Issues ⚠️
  • Tag Sync: Tags stored in URLs are a workaround for Firefox sync limitations.
  • Content Extraction: Depends on Readability.js; may struggle with complex JS apps.
  • Screenshots: Not synced between devices.
Next Up / ToDo 🚀
  • Develop mobile version
  • Improve error handling for local AI timeouts.
