Features & Capabilities

AI Bookmark Tagger is a Firefox desktop extension that saves pages into a dedicated bookmark folder and organizes them with AI-generated tags.

  • Save and tag the current page from the toolbar popup.
  • Choose Gemini, OpenAI, Anthropic, Ollama, or another OpenAI-compatible provider.
  • Review and edit suggested tags before saving.
  • Keep each provider’s model and key separate.
  • Customize the tagging instructions and allowed tag list.
  • Prevent duplicate bookmarks in the managed folder.

The built-in library provides:

  • Search across titles, addresses, and tags.
  • Table and card layouts, including a responsive compact layout.
  • Filters by tag, website, archive state, and tagging status.
  • Sorting by date, title, or website.
  • Editing, archiving, retagging, preview regeneration, and bulk actions.
  • Global tag renaming and merging.
  • Voluntary broken-link checks with no automatic deletion.
  • A 10-second undo after single or bulk deletion.
  • Light and dark themes.
  1. Open the extension settings.
  2. Select an AI provider.
  3. Add its API key, or enter a local server address for Ollama.
  4. Use Test connection to confirm the provider and model are available.
  5. Open any website and select the extension button to save it.
Firefox 140 or newer is required. Firefox for Android is not supported because it does not expose bookmark management to extensions.

When a page is saved or retagged, its address, title, extracted text, and provider key are sent directly to the selected AI provider. Provider keys are stored only in Firefox local extension storage and are not synchronized.

Firefox labels the provider key as “authentication information.” The extension cannot read Firefox passwords or the user’s Firefox account credentials.

The extension requests:

  • Bookmark access to create and manage its dedicated folder.
  • Local storage for settings, provider keys, previews, and interface state.
  • Tab and scripting access to read the page explicitly saved by the user.
  • Direct access to the selected AI providers.
  • Optional website access only when retagging, using a custom provider, or checking links.
Screenshots stay on the current device. Link checking never removes a bookmark automatically.
