The main reason vertical tabs is more efficient vs traditional tabs at the top = You can have 20+ tabs open and still be able to read the title of each tab when it is in vertical mode. If you have 20+ tabs open in a horizontal style, the title of the tabs becomes ... and it makes navigating around the different tabs to be more challenging.
