User Reviews

Reviews show a mixed experience. The WSJ Android app is praised for strong, in-depth journalism and audio listening, but it is plagued by stability and sign-in problems, poor in-app reading with redirects to web pages, missing offline features, and limited audio controls. Users cite crashes, login loops, and subscription issues, with many preferring the website for reliability.
Pros
  • Strong depth and quality of analysis/presentation across topics.
  • Ability to listen to articles (audio playback) is a valued feature.
  • WSJ brand credibility as a trusted news source in contrast to some apps.
Cons
  • Frequent crashes and unresponsiveness after updates (crashes, freezes, not responding).
  • Sign-in/login problems and subscription management issues (loops, re-addition, charges).
  • In-app reading often loads as web pages rather than a native reader (redirects/cookies prompts).
  • Missing offline reading and print edition access (no offline mode; print edition visibility broken).
  • Audio playback limitations: no automatic playback across saved articles and no speed control.

What a nightmare! On this Juneteenth, because of difficulty with digital version, I foolishly uninstalled the old ap and reinstalled new. It's a totally different format. No longer can you jump pages to finish an article, or swipe left or right, only vertically through 58 pages , to view "print edition". You can no longer access a week's worth of older editions easily, the side bar is gone. No " letters to the editor " access either. Oh... don't forget all the new digital advertising. FAIL ;(

Lately, this app logs me out every couple days. I can tell it's going to log me out when I tap on an article from my pull down shade and the app sits there an loads for about 10 to 15 seconds. Then it brings up the sales/log in screen. Sooooo annoying. When paying nearly $50/month for the app, I expect the app to be considerably better.

The app sucks. When I click on an article notification I want to read it goes into a constant loop trying to open the article but never opening. It will keep doing it until I hit back or close it. I know I am expecting a lot from an entity owned by Rupert Murdoch (the demise of journalism). Looking at other reviews, they had technical issues for many years. What a joke of a company.
