Window Titler Firefox

Window Titler

Label your windows and profiles using custom window titles.

Features & Capabilities

Window Titler is a powerful Firefox extension that allows you to customize the title of your browser windows and profiles. This helps in better organization and quick identification of open windows directly from the operating system's window list, task switcher, or the browser's title bar.

To use Window Titler, click its toolbar button or press the default shortcut <kbd>Ctrl+Alt+T</kbd>. You can set profile-specific titles via the extension's settings. Note that Firefox's title bar is disabled by default, but it can be enabled easily through Firefox's customization options.

Window Titler requires permission to access recently closed tabs to maintain your custom titles even after browser restarts. It is open source and welcomes feedback, contributions, and bug reports through its GitHub repository.

Enhance your Firefox experience by labeling your windows clearly and efficiently with Window Titler.

User Reviews

Window Titler lets you label windows with custom titles for easier organization across platforms. Reviews praise its simplicity and cross‑platform usefulness, and its non-intrusive labeling. However, reliability is a major concern: titles frequently vanish after restarts or during use, and Linux shortcut conflicts complicate usage. Some users also worry about ongoing maintenance. Overall, it's a handy tool when it works, but persistence and platform-specific activation issues limit its reliability.
Pros
  • Adds user-defined titles to browser windows, helping organize multiple windows.
  • Simple to use: click the icon, enter a title, and the window shows the new title.
  • Works across macOS, Linux, and Windows.
  • Titles do not affect webpage titles or screenshots, which is desirable.
Cons
  • Titles often disappear or are not saved/persist after restart or during use, making the feature unreliable.
  • Activation issues on Linux due to keyboard shortcut conflicts or toolbar icon not always available; requires manual shortcut management.
  • Some users feel the project is not actively maintained, leading to unaddressed bugs.

Very very nice. READ the directions about the title bar.

It works in general, I started to use it when Firefox changed its sorting algorithm in Windows dropdown menu on macos (around version 108 in 2023). It was useful that time. It also works on linux, but it is not that useful. It's a pity the extension is not able to rename windows in "recently closed windows" tab about:firefoxview#opentabs Although this may happen due to inconsitency in Firefox windows naming as mentioned in github.com/tpamula/webextension-window-titler/issues/43 Anyway, the extension is not developed for few years.
