Row real rivers on your machine. Pace boat, coach, or other rowers online.
Waterline turns your rowing machine into a boat on open water.
Connect over Bluetooth and every stroke you pull moves a racing shell down a river. Pull harder and the boat runs faster. Ease off and it settles. Your split, stroke rate and power sit across the top of the screen, exactly where you want them on the water.
FOUR CIRCUITS, AND NO FINISH LINE
Every course is a closed loop, so you are never stopped by a finish line. Row one lap or twenty - the water keeps going, your laps are timed as you pass the gate, and your best lap is saved.
- Emerald Reach - a 2,000 m lap around a wooded island in morning light. Gentle bends, a buoyed channel, and a stone bridge.
- Copper Gorge - a 6,000 m lap through a narrow sunrise canyon. Sharper turns, steep red-rock walls, sparse pines.
- Emerald Karst - a 12,000 m lap across a flooded tropical valley. Limestone towers standing out of still jade water, and a long haul between them.
- Sentinel Gorge - a 4,000 m lap through a deep limestone canyon, its walls rising straight out of the water, watched over by colossal guardians cut from the rock.
ROW WITH A PACE BOAT, OR A COACH
Set a target split anywhere from 3:00 down to 1:30 per 500 m. The pace boat holds it exactly and shows how far up or down you are, metre by metre.
Or switch to the coach. The coach rows alongside you at your own rate and talks the whole way - encouragement when you are on it, and a word when you drift off the target.
ROW ONLINE WITH OTHER PEOPLE
Tap ROW ONLINE and you join whoever else is rowing your course, right now. No lobby, no invite codes, no waiting for a race to start - the courses are loops, so you simply appear on the water and row. A panel lists the ten nearest rowers with their names, how far ahead or behind they are, and the pace they are pulling.
The menu shows how many people are out on each course before you commit, so you always know where the company is.
Everything else works completely offline. Waterline never needs a connection to row, and the pace boat, the coach and every course are yours without one.
SEND YOUR ROWS TO STRAVA (currently limited to a small number of users)
Connect your Strava account once, in the settings, and Waterline offers to upload each piece when you finish it. Distance, time, split, stroke rate, power and stroke count go up as a rowing activity, with a second-by-second record of the whole piece.
It is a choice you make per row, never a default - a session you would rather forget stays off your feed. Demo rows are never offered at all, so nothing you did not actually pull can reach your training log.
Waterline is compatible with Strava. An account is optional - everything else in Waterline works without one, and without a connection.
BUILT TO FEEL LIKE THE WATER
- A fully articulated rower — male or female, your choice — through catch, drive, finish and recovery, with the oars in their hands the whole stroke.
- Blades that bite and release at the right moment, and leave puddles behind.
- Real recorded river and birdsong, not a synthesised loop.
- Rivers that actually bend, with terrain that follows them.
MADE FOR YOUR SCREEN
Scale the heads-up display to taste - useful when the phone or tablet is propped a metre away on the machine's rail.
NO MACHINE YET?
Demo mode plays the whole thing with no hardware attached, so you can see every course before you connect anything.
REQUIREMENTS
- Android 10 or newer.
- A rowing machine whose monitor broadcasts its workout data over Bluetooth Low Energy. Bluetooth must be on to connect; Waterline hides every nearby device that is not a rowing machine.
- No account needed to row. No ads. No in-app purchases. A Strava account is optional, and only if you want your rows on Strava.
