VoiceSissy is select-to-speech tool. This tool utilizes built-ins voice synthesizers in Firefox, and also free text-to-speech (TTS) VOICEVOX/Bouyomi-Chan installed on your local machine.

(* Google Chrome Extension version of this Add-on has a text-to-speech (TTS) AND speech-to-text (STT) text editor as well.)

Usage:

Select text, right click, then click "VoiceSissy : Read".
It will read out the selected text.

In addition, you can install VOICEVOX on local machine. The extension can dispatch the selected text to VOICEVOX to generate a spoken voice.

Supported TTS Voices

Voice Synthesis ----- Google Chrome built-ins --------- English,Spanish,French,German,Japanese etc... ----- Operation System built-ins --------- Microsoft voices (on Windows) --------- Apple voices (on macOS)
VOICEVOX (You need to install, and run it on local machine.) ----- Shikoku Metan (Japanese) ----- Zundamon (Japanese)
Bouyomi-Chan (via WebSocket plugin)

Usage:

Open https://voicevox.hiroshiba.jp/ and setup VOICEVOX.
Run VOICEVOX on your machine.
Select any text on your browser, right click, then select "VoiceSissy : Read".
Browser will read out the selected text.

This addon works OK for vocalizing short Japanese sentences, but I found some issues, especially when trying to vocalize long texts. Firstly, I couldn't find a way to change which VOICEVOX speaker was being used. Thankfully the default sounds pleasant, but it would still be nice to be able to change the speaker. More importantly, the addon seems to ignore punctuation, such as the full-width comma and question mark. This makes it difficult to understand long sentences, as they are pronounced without any pauses. I ended up not using the addon much because of the last issue, but I like the idea and hope that the addon gets improved.

正しく動作させるには拡張機能の内部ドメインをVoicevoxのAPI設定へ追加するのが必要です。 VoiceSissyを開き「⭷」ボタンで新しいタブを開き、URL内の「moz-extension://xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxx」の部分をコピー「localhost:50021/setting」を開き、「Allow Origin」に先程コピーしたドメインを設定します。
