Phone Test: Hardware Check Android

Phone Test: Hardware Check

Hardware test: dead pixel, touch screen, speaker, mic, sensor, camera check.

Overview

Features & Capabilities

Phone Test is a full hardware test for any Android phone: dead pixels, touch screen, speakers, microphone, sensors, camera, buttons, charging, refresh rate and a real storage check. You judge each part — pass, faulty or skip — and the app keeps the tally and draws the conclusion.

Made for the moment you are about to buy a used phone, or suspect something in your own phone has quietly stopped working.

CHECKS THAT CHECK THEMSELVES

• Speakers — "Check me" plays 2 to 5 beeps; tap how many you heard (and which side for headphones)
• Vibration — the motion sensor confirms the motor really buzzes
• Microphone — a 6-second quality check flags silence, distortion, hiss or a weak mic
• Touch sampling rate — how many touches per second reach the app; information only, never a fail

THE TESTS

Screen: solid colours for dead pixels, gradients for banding and ghosting, a touch grid for dead spots, multi-touch, measured refresh rate vs the advertised Hz, and a 30-second ghost touch watch.

Audio: loudspeaker left/right with a 100 Hz–16 kHz sweep, earpiece, wired or Bluetooth headphones, microphone level bar and a 5-second recording to play back.

Sensors: accelerometer, gyroscope and compass with a line saying whether the reading is right; proximity and light pass by themselves; barometer, step counter, vibration.

Camera and buttons: rear and front preview, flashlight, volume, power and headset keys.

Connectivity and power: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, GPS, SIM, fingerprint through the system prompt, charging current, and a storage check that writes real data to catch a phone claiming 256 GB on a 32 GB chip.

THE REPORT

Every verdict is saved on the phone. The summary opens with one line — all passed or what failed. Retest runs only the failed and skipped tests again. Share the report as text or as an image: both show the same verdict, the failed tests and measured numbers like the real refresh and touch rate.

BY HAND AND TOOLS

A ten-item checklist covers what software cannot see: frame, glass, port, SIM tray, lenses, account, carrier lock, IMEI, battery, box. Tools add a quick buyer session, spec check (claimed vs real RAM, storage, screen), price helper, run comparison, charging test, and a color cycler that may make temporary OLED image retention less visible (it can't repair burn-in).

PRIVACY

Your report stays on the phone unless you share it. Mic recordings stay in memory, never saved or sent; the camera preview is not recorded. Camera and microphone are asked for only when you open the test that needs them. The app never sees fingerprint data, does not read your IMEI or serial number, does not ask for location, and has no account. Anonymous usage and crash reports carry no audio, photos or report and can be switched off in Settings. The free version shows ads from Google AdMob and Unity Ads, never while a test runs.

WHO IS IT FOR?

• Buyers of second-hand phones — run the list in front of the seller
• Sellers proving the phone works, and repair shops doing an intake check
• Anyone whose speaker, mic or touchscreen feels off

Available in 12 languages. Android 7.0 and up. No account. Every test is free; Pro removes the ads.

HOW TO CHECK A USED PHONE IN ABOUT 10 MINUTES

1. Install Phone Test on the phone you want to check and open the test list.
2. Start with the screen: solid colours for dead pixels, then the touch grid — swipe until every cell turns green. Grey cells are dead spots.
3. Let "Check me" handle speakers, vibration and microphone. You only answer simple questions, such as how many beeps you heard.
4. Work through sensors, camera, buttons, connectivity and charging. Mark each part pass, faulty or skip.
5. Run the storage check, then open the summary. Retest runs only what failed or was skipped.

FAQ

Q: The phone has no barometer or fingerprint reader. Is that a fail?
A: No. A missing part is not a fault — skip that test and the verdict stays fair.
