StrayStar GPS Tracking

By: StrayStar App
GPS tracking for dementia and vulnerable people at risk of wandering.

Overview

Features & Capabilities

StrayStar GPS Tracking helps carers and family members view the location of a StrayStar GPS Tracker.

The app is designed for carer GPS tracking and location support for vulnerable people, including elderly people, people living with dementia or Alzheimer's, memory loss, learning disabilities, autism or other conditions where wandering, becoming lost, or leaving a safe area may be a concern.

A compatible StrayStar tracker is required to use this app. The app does not track the phone’s own location. Instead, it shows the location of the paired StrayStar GPS Tracker linked to your StrayStar account.

StrayStar is intended to provide practical location support for everyday care. It can help carers check whether a tracker holder is at home, view recent movement, respond more quickly if someone appears to have left a safe area, and share temporary location access with another trusted carer when extra support is needed.

Key features:

• View the tracker’s current location on a map, updated every few minutes
• See automatic walking trails when the tracker is on the move
• See recent tracker movement history
• Set geofence areas such as home, care settings, school, work, day centres or other safe places
• Receive app and/or email alerts when selected events occur, depending on your app settings
• Share temporary access with another trusted carer or family member
• Send the location to Google Maps (for directions, street view), or a WhatsApp contact
• View battery and tracker status information
• Manage your account settings
• Use the same account from the web app or Android app

StrayStar can help carers support someone who may be at risk of wandering or getting lost. It may be useful for dementia wandering support, vulnerable person tracking, elderly GPS tracking, carer alerts, safe-location monitoring and family reassurance.

The app may be helpful in situations where a person has memory problems, confusion, reduced awareness of risk, or a tendency to walk away from home or care settings. It can also support families and carers who want a simple way to check the location of a loved one using a dedicated GPS tracker rather than relying on the person carrying a mobile phone.

Geofence alerts can be used to create selected safe zones. For example, a carer may choose to set a home area and receive an alert if the tracker appears to leave that area. Location history can help show recent movement so carers can better understand where the tracker has been.

Shared access is designed for trusted people only. An account holder can allow another carer or family member to view tracker information for a limited period. This can be useful when care is shared between relatives, neighbours, friends or professional carers.

StrayStar is built around privacy and responsible use. You must have lawful authority to track the person or tracker. The service must not be used for covert tracking, stalking, harassment, unauthorised employee tracking or any unlawful surveillance.

The service is intended to support care and safeguarding, but it is not a medical device, emergency service, or substitute for supervision, professional care, or calling emergency services when someone is in immediate danger. If someone is missing, at risk of harm, or needs urgent help, contact the appropriate emergency services.

Important:

• You must have lawful authority to track the person or tracker
• You must only use StrayStar with appropriate consent or authority
• A StrayStar GPS tracker and active account are required
• The app does not collect the phone’s own GPS location for tracking
• Location accuracy and alert timing can depend on GPS signal, mobile network coverage, tracker battery, device settings and other conditions
• Alerts may be delayed or unavailable if the tracker is indoors, out of signal, switched off, out of battery, or unable to obtain a GPS fix
