SoPoet - Poetry meets Imagery

SoPoet is a creative community built around a simple idea: slowing down.

In the rush of modern social media, it can feel impossible to find a quiet space to gather your thoughts. We wanted to build one. On SoPoet you pair a photograph with a poem of at most seven lines to create a poetgraph, matching your best words with a photo.

There is no algorithm here. You follow a handful of poets or check the global feed, read what they have made today, and reward the lines that stay with you. Likes are called sparks, because that is what a good poem gives you. Comments are called glosses, after the notes readers leave in the margins of a book.

When inspiration runs slow, the word of the day offers a gentle prompt. Each week also carries a theme you can write towards, and the poetgraph that gathers the most sparks and glosses is featured for the whole community to enjoy. As your writing grows you collect titles, quiet milestones that recognise the habit of showing up. And should a poem happen to land on 5,7,5, SoPoet recognises it as a haiku and awards it a badge, as it does for the tanka, the cinquain and the Fib. Nobody is asking you to try. It is simply a nice thing when it happens.

SoPoet was created by a small team of three from the North of England.

They say a picture speaks 1,000 words. We say why not have both?
