Features & Capabilities

For developers and cheaters in Twine games: See the game state, edit variables, track changes, and debug issues.

A browser extension to give you super powers in text-adventures and interactive fiction. Twine Dugger is a suite of devtools designed for developers looking to debug and test, and players looking to cheat or manipulate their game experience.

Built to support the major story formats, SugarCube and Harlowe, Twine Dugger lets you inspect, track, and alter the state of compatible Twine games on the fly. Adjust your in-game stats, relationships, money, or gold during testing, or lock complex states to see how your narrative paths adapt.

Note for Harlowe games: Because Harlowe's API isn't normally accessible through JavaScript, Twine Dugger requires Harlowe games to use Chapel’s Unofficial Custom Macro Framework.

Key Features

  • Full Control Over Game-State:
  • See Variables: View the current game state and navigate down into any nested variable.
  • Track Changed Values: Monitor updates and track variable changes live.
  • Update Values: Edit active variables on the fly.
  • Lock Variables: Freeze specific values during gameplay or testing.
  • Delete & Duplicate Values: Cleanly modify data or duplicate variables.
  • Create Filters: Easily keep track of only relevant variables.
  • Deep Search Engine: Instantly search for deeply nested variables by name or value, or find the passages containing your search query.
  • Inspect Source Code: View the game's source code and make changes without leaving the game.
