Tab Title Tamer Firefox

Tab Title Tamer

Take control of tab titles! Stop changes on inactive tabs and remove number clutter. Highly configurable with site-specific rules.

Features & Capabilities

Tired of tab titles that keep changing, or of notification counts like (3), (12) or (1000+) cluttering your tabs? Tab Title Tamer puts you back in control.

WHAT IT DOES

  • Freezes a tab's title so background activity can't keep rewriting it.
  • Removes notification-count clutter from titles — (3), (12), (1000+), (5M+), (1 000), (1,000), (2.3k) and similar.
  • Lets you decide exactly where each behavior applies, site by site.

HOW MATCHING WORKS Every rule targets a web address split into parts: subdomain . domain . tld / path.

  • Leave the subdomain empty to match the bare domain only (example.com).
  • Enter a subdomain such as "www" or "app" to match just that one (www.example.com).
  • Choose to tame the title always, or only when the tab is inactive. When several rules match the same page, the most specific one wins.

FREE — AVAILABLE TO EVERYONE

  • Freeze tab titles per site.
  • Remove (number) counts per site.
  • Rules for the bare domain or a specific subdomain.
  • "Always" or "only when inactive" condition.
  • Light and dark themes.

PRO

  • Automatic modes: tame every site / remove every count by default, then disable per site.
  • Custom titles: set your own fixed title for a site.
  • Path targeting: rules for a specific page or section (example.com/inbox).
  • All subdomains at once with the * wildcard (.example.com), plus patterns like dev-.
  • Keep the count on the homepage only: remove counts on deep pages but keep one on the site's home.
  • Settings backup & restore: export your rules to a file and import them anywhere.
  • All future Pro features included.

PRIVACY Tab Title Tamer does not collect, store, or transmit your browsing data. All of your rules are kept locally in the browser's own storage. The extension makes no analytics or tracking requests. Optional Pro payments are handled by ExtensionPay (Stripe); only payment processing happens off-device, and no browsing data is involved.

Alixian: if i could rate this 0 stars i could. i installed this to turn off the stupid "we're still here!" or "complete your order!" tab title updates on some sites since i like opening multiple things in new tabs, and it gets really really infuriating. the pro requirement would have been fine but this extension doesn't even work, the tab titles still keep updating. it doesn't just lock the tab to the first tab title it had like i want it to. it feels like it was designed to be bloatware and harvest data while funneling little $5 stipends to the dev despite it not actually working.
