Tab Group Shortcuts Firefox

Tab Group Shortcuts

Group tabs by Keyboard-Shortcuts! With ALT G and ALT+Shift+G you can group and ungroup tabs respectively. Comes with auto-naming features to make it a smooth and easy productivity boost!

Features & Capabilities

Easy to use keyboard-shortcuts to group tabs up quickly.

Default Keybinds are: Alt+G = Group selected tabs Alt+Shift+G = Ungroup selected tabs

Features

  1. Keyboard-Shortcuts to Group and Ungroup Tabs
  2. Auto-Naming of the tab groups

How auto-naming works: It works by looking at the tabs you are about to group and taking the domain name of the most frequent one among the tabs for the group name. This occurs if the amount of tabs from a single domain hits a threshold you set You can also set up a name cycle array which is just a bunch of strings that you could make anything you want, My recommendation is to keep it simple and general since it just goes from the top of the list to the bottom in order. By default i made it so its an array of emoji animals, starting with a fox of course!🦊 *These can be turned on or off individually, If there is no name cycle setting and there is not enough tabs from a domain or its turned off then it will just use colors from the tab groups.

Auto-Naming Details

  • Auto Name by most common domain: This will simply take the most common Domain among the tabs and use it for the tab group
  • Domain Name Threshold: how many tabs of a domain needs to exist before the above effect.
  • Name Cycle: This is just a bunch of names you add with commas to separate each one. This is also the fallback if the domain threshold is not met.

The Extension is not working? Some programs, other extensions or firefox may take priority over using the default keyboard shortcuts, so you might have to change them. This is explained below if you have never done it before.

How do i change my Keyboard Shortcuts? Go to about:addons, Click the cogwheel > Manage Extension Shortcuts and change them to what you want.

Why did i make this? Ever wanted to just mark a bunch of tabs and then hit a keybind to group them instead of right clicking>add Tabs to group>New Group>Write the name for the tabs...

Its too much of a hassle to even bother with them in the first place! There is some excellent extensions out there for automatically grouping tabs from the same domain, But this ends up being more of a hindrance than a tool for me personally.

All i wanted was to just group tabs with a simple keybind and have some eassy auto naming going on to make it seamless. Hence why i made this extension creation
