SuprHotKeys provides the following useful shortcuts:

On any page:

Ctrl + Space : Select any text and press this shortcut to search it in Google in the current tab.
Ctrl + Shift + Space : Select any text and press this shortcut to search it in Google in a new tab.

On Google search pages:

Ctrl + Space : If text is selected, it searches it in google in the current tab. If no text is selected, it focuses the search textbox.
Ctrl + Shift + Space : if text is selected, it searches it in Google in a new tab. If no text is selected, it selects all the words in the current search textbox.

Global shortcuts:

Alt + Period / Alt + . : Switch to next tab
Alt + Comma / Alt + , : Switch to previous tab
Alt + L : Opens a new tab next to the current one
Alt + K : Closes the current tab
