User Reviews

Overall, Strongbox AutoFill for Firefox is generally seen as working and improving. Reviewers praise reliability and positive experiences, with some noting it could replace other password managers. However, recurring issues temper enthusiasm: autofill is not consistently reliable and often lacks save prompts; UI overlays can obstruct the page; URL/subdomain matching is weak and passkeys aren’t supported; 2FA codes can paste to the clipboard unexpectedly; and a broad permission request raises security concerns. UX and security gaps remain despite promise.
Pros
  • Works reliably and is improving over time.
  • Actively developed with ongoing improvements (beta status).
  • Overall positive user sentiment and satisfaction.
Cons
  • Autofill not reliable and often doesn't prompt to save/update logins.
  • Popups/overlay prompts cover fields and disrupt workflow.
  • Weak URL/subdomain matching and no passkeys support.
  • Clipboard-related issues: 2FA codes can be pasted unexpectedly.
  • Permission request to exchange messages with other programs without explanation.

Add-on can't connect with Strongbox Pro app. Useless. Doesn't work.

My biggest grievance is when you press "dismiss" on the strongbox password filler, rather than just disappear, it then asks "hide for awhile", "hide on page", "hide on domain". This absolutely sucks. I don't have the answers to those questions, I don't even know what "awhile" is either. Why not just hide it when I press it? Its so stupidly annoying. Add another button then like "dismiss" and "options" or something. Like, its an overlay on the page and I have to make that decision on permanency right now? No I want the overlay to f off out of the way of the page its overlaying Otherwise it works great.
