User Reviews

Users praise Speed Dial for its simple, clean interface and reliable, long-term usability. Common drawbacks center on a forced Yahoo search engine with no option to switch and a lack of customization options (fonts, tile label positions, home page). Reviewers also request features like JSON import/export and the ability to remove the search bar. Overall sentiment is positive but marred by control and customization limitations.
Pros
  • Simple, clean and easy-to-use layout.
  • Reliable and long-standing usability (used for years).
  • Highly regarded as a top bookmark extension with solid performance.
  • Positive overall experience and ease of adoption.
Cons
  • Forced Yahoo search engine by default with no option to change; multiple reviews report this behavior.
  • Lack of customization options and settings (no control over search engine, fonts, tile label positions, home page; missing features like import/export JSON).

Please please allow adding local HTML files to this without it prefixing it with http:// When adding a file it even resolves the name and all, but when trying to load it it'll try to load it as http:// file///[DriveLetter]:/

Does it need an account in order to keep the entries after an update?

A basic speed dial, a bit too basic imo. No custom background images, you can't even use a specific image for a button, it's site preview or gtfo. So a hard pass for me, but for somebody looking for something simple that's easy on the resources it might be worth a try. Had no issues with the Yahoo offer - I clicked No and my search engine didn't change. No idea what ppl are complaining about. Probably the folks that click Yes on every prompt during an install w/o reading ^^ So the 2-star rating is for the lack of features, not because it's actually bad.
