Skip Redirect Firefox

Skip Redirect

Some web pages use intermediary pages before redirecting to a final page. This add-on tries to extract the final url from the intermediary url and goes there straight away if successful.

Features & Capabilities

Skip Redirect is a practical Chrome extension designed to streamline your web browsing by bypassing intermediary redirect pages. Many websites use these intermediary URLs before forwarding you to the final destination, which can slow down your browsing experience. This extension analyzes such redirect URLs, extracts the final intended link, and navigates straight to it if successful.

Users can customize behavior through the extension's preferences, including managing URL lists to avoid issues like problematic logins. This extension maintains your privacy by not collecting or transmitting any user data. Developers and users can provide feedback or contribute improvements through its GitHub repository.

With Skip Redirect, enjoy faster navigation without intermediary delays, making your web experience smoother and more efficient.

User Reviews

The add-on is praised for automatically skipping redirects and trackers, improving privacy and landing on final URLs quickly. It is generally well-liked and easy to customize. However, several users report reliability issues on certain sites, including page load failures and redirect errors, and a few note friction such as needing to disable it or copy-paste links. Overall, it’s a privacy-focused helper that works well when compatible with the page, but doesn't work reliably on every site.
Pros
  • Automatically skips redirect pages and trackers, directing you to the final URL.
  • Enhances privacy by avoiding trackers during navigation.
  • Skips redirects instantly for applicable links.
  • Generally well-received by users (positive experiences).
  • Customizable to fit user needs.
Cons
  • Can cause page load issues on some sites, with content not loading or blank screens.
  • Can produce redirect-related errors on certain pages (e.g., 'This page isn't redirecting properly').
  • Not reliable for all users; some report that it doesn't work or isn't useful.
  • Sometimes requires disabling or extra steps (e.g., copy-pasting links) to use the site.

a little challenging to understand how it works initially, but once you understand it's very versatile and–it works! there are some edge cases where i've had to turn it off (usually in some ridiculous microsoft/windows SSO loop which notoriously hits like 10 different long, obscure domains on the way) but i just haven't spent the time to configure around it. it's nice how the configuration options are simple yet pretty wide ranging. it would be nice to see something like a "excluded domains" list or something–i.e. domains/subdomains that Skip Redirect should be disabled entirely.
