Overview

Features & Capabilities

Eleven kinds of logic grid, and a new puzzle of each every day.

Quiet Grids is a calm puzzle book you carry. At midnight UTC it lays out eleven fresh boards, one of each kind, and the last thirty days stay open in the calendar. Every board has exactly one answer, checked by a solver before the app was packed. The puzzles travel inside the app: nothing needs the internet to play.

THE ELEVEN

Each one is named after the animal that carries it on arling.sk, with its classic name underneath:

Badgers, a killer sudoku
Hares, an anti-knight sudoku
Squirrels, a kakuro
Cranes, a bridges puzzle (hashi)
Swans, a pearl loop (masyu)
Magpies, a picture grid (nonogram)
Herons, a path puzzle (numberlink)
Voles, an island puzzle (nurikabe)
Otters, a line loop (slitherlink)
Hedgehogs, a star puzzle (star battle)
Dormice, a logic table with short word clues

MADE FOR A THUMB

Draw a line and it follows your finger as you move, not after you let go. Drag across squares to mark several at once. The bottom bar switches between tabs. Puzzle tools sit below the board, and Rules can be opened from the board header. A quiet clock counts your time on each board; it only runs while you play, and nothing ever runs out.

A GENTLE FIRST BOARD

The first time you open a kind, its three cards come first, drawn on a real board of that kind: the rule kept, one right move, and the mistake that kind invites. If you have not finished any board yet, your first one is an easy board of that kind, and you can skip straight to the board of the day.

HELP THAT TEACHES, NOT HELP THAT SOLVES

Check is free: it tells you how many marks are wrong and roughly where, then exactly which ones. Hint is free: it shows you where to look and which piece of reasoning applies there. Neither of them ever fills a square in for you. If you would rather have one square written in from the answer, Open 1 does that for 30 coins, at most three times a board, and a board finished with help says so and keeps its time apart from your clean bests.

WHAT IS IN IT

A new puzzle of every kind each day
A calendar of the last thirty days, always open, which never touches your streak
Practice and Endless for every kind, from the puzzles the app carries
A streak kept by one finished puzzle a day, whichever kind, forgiving one missed day after five in a row
Coins for finished boards and for finishing all eleven on one day
Papers and pen shapes for the board, and more days of the archive, bought with coins
Undo and Redo without limit, notes for the number kinds, soft sounds and vibration you can switch off

FREE, WITH ADVERTS AND OPTIONAL PURCHASES

You can watch an optional advert for coins; you press the button yourself every time. A small banner sits at the bottom of the lists, never on a board. A full-screen advert can appear only after you finish a board from the archive or from practice and press Next: never at start up, never while a board is open, never after the puzzle of the day, never right after a rewarded advert or a purchase, never two in a row, not before your sixth finished board, at most one in three and three a day, and never in your first three days.

In-app purchases are optional. Google Play offers three coin packs and Remove ads. A whole-archive purchase is offered when at least 100 additional archive days remain locked. Prices are shown by Google Play before you pay. Coins have no cash value; bought coins can also pay for Open 1. Papers and pens only change how the board looks. There are no energy bars, no lives, no countdowns and no boxes to open.

Your progress stays on your phone. If Google backup is on and Android has made a backup, Android can bring it back on a new phone. Purchased Remove ads and whole-archive access can be restored through Google Play using the same Google account. There is no account, no leaderboard and no chat.
