SiteMacro Firefox

SiteMacro

Records macros to automatically perform actions or submit forms on user defined websites. This can for example be used to log into captive portals, or to confirm annoying cookie banners on web sites.

Features & Capabilities

SiteMacro is a powerful Chrome extension designed to automate repetitive tasks on websites. Users can record macros that perform actions such as clicking buttons, submitting forms, or bypassing cookie banners. Simply navigate to the target website, record your macro by completing the desired steps, and SiteMacro will replicate these actions automatically during future visits.

Ideal for managing tasks like logging into captive portals or accepting terms of use for frequently accessed free WiFi sites, SiteMacro enhances browsing efficiency and convenience. Its straightforward interface enables both recording and manual playback of macros through the toolbar, streamlining routine workflows across various websites.

User Reviews

SiteMacro is generally easy to use and helps automate simple, repetitive form interactions by recording and replaying macros, saving time on routine tasks. However, users frequently encounter throttling (macros stopping when pages repeat too quickly), lack of a manual run button, limited post-record editing, and restrictive URL matching (no wildcards or ignore-query-string support). Import/export could be improved as well. Overall it’s a handy starter automation tool with notable reliability and UX gaps that many reviewers want to see addressed.
Pros
  • Macro recording and playback to automate clicks and form interactions.
  • Saves time on repetitive tasks and form filling.
  • Easy to use / user-friendly.
  • Fast to set up and typically works quickly after installation.
Cons
  • Throttle / page repeats too quickly causing macros to stop or not run automatically.
  • No dedicated run/execute button makes manual testing and triggering difficult.
  • Limited editing capabilities: hard to modify or reorder macro steps after recording.
  • URL matching is too strict: no wildcards and no easy way to ignore query strings or vary URL patterns.

Worked for my simple test of clicking a designated button on a form page where the URL changes but always starts with the same beginning. This worked because the use case allowed me to use the start of a URL, but note that you can't use any other parts of the URL as keys. It would be nice if you could match URL's "like" or use wildcards, etc, to specify what pages to apply the macros to. Also needs the ability to only run manually. I created a macro to click the submit button, essentially, because it's far down on the page and I'm often at the top when I'm ready to submit. So having it run automatically doesn't work, and currently the only option (which is nice if you want it) is to wait a specified delay. So I can't complain about it working, I just want a little more out of the extension.

worked the first attempt. there,s no enryption for password fields. no way to edit macro lines.

I guess this extension works by remembering the element on which we clicked, or scrolled. But what I was expecting was it to record WHERE I clicked or scroll, i.e. the POSITION. It's therefore not that useful for automating things. Maybe I'm wrong, but the "failed while executing a macro; required element not found" error is then not good to have EDIT: it does work, but once you've refreshed the page, you get the mentioned error
