Simple Twitch Adblocker

An extension to block Twitch ads. Done the simplest possible way to avoid Twitch countermeasures. Ads will be automatically muted and the stream will continue playing over them (in lower resolution due to Twitch limitations).

Simple Twitch Adblocker is a minimalist Chrome extension designed specifically to block Twitch video ads effectively while avoiding Twitch's countermeasures. It automatically detects and hides video ads during Twitch streaming. Due to Twitch's platform limitations, the extension plays a lower resolution backup stream while ads occur to maintain continuous playback. If the backup stream cannot be played, ads are muted automatically to reduce disruption. Its approach mimics manual muting, making it difficult for Twitch to identify the adblocker. Users should ensure no other Twitch adblockers are active simultaneously to maintain functionality.

This extension offers a simple and practical solution for Twitch viewers seeking uninterrupted streaming by minimizing ad interference without complex configurations or heavy resource usage.

User reviews

Simple Twitch Adblocker is praised for muting ads while letting them play in a mini player so streamers receive ad revenue, with options to pop out and resize the mini stream. However, multiple users report issues with the mini player not loading properly, causing ads to just be muted without the mini overlay. The add-on is seen as outdated and in need of updates to handle Twitch changes. Initial ads and delayed mini player loading can reduce its effectiveness, but many still prefer it over other ad blockers for Twitch.
Pros
  • Effectively mutes Twitch ads, improving user experience without completely blocking ads.
  • Allows ads to play in a mini player or picture-in-picture (PiP) window, letting streamers receive ad revenue.
  • Provides a workaround to watch muted ads and continue viewing content simultaneously.
  • Generally works better than other Twitch ad blockers that fail or cause buffering.
  • Users appreciate the ability to resize or pop out the mini player for better viewing during ads.
Cons
  • Often fails to detect or load the mini player, causing ads to play muted on the main screen without the mini overlay.
  • Does not block ads but only mutes them, which some users find less preferable.
  • The add-on appears outdated and requires updates to fix issues caused by changes in Twitch's HTML elements.
  • Initial ads sometimes behave differently or lack the mini player overlay, reducing effectiveness.
  • Delay in mini player loading can cause ads to play with sound briefly, especially after pausing or resuming streams.

Just tried it out and it works. Ad played but muted and had to unmute the stream mini window but could make the mini window larger by the picture in picture pop out. After the ad it was playing in mini and main window so I closed the mini. Works better than any others that either don't work at all or get stuck buffering. Plus this gives the streamer the ads. Honestly wish streaming live services made this a default thing. I see your ad but I'm not missing anything.

It works for me, i don't understand the bad reviews. 1. It does mute the ad. 2. It shows a mini player to the right. 3. You can manually unmute the mini view. 4. You can PiP the mini view and resize it for a bigger viewport. It does say "mini player not found", so i guess steps 3 + 4 where automated at one point, but the addon still works better than the others i tried. an additional plus point is that the ads actually play and the content creators get the ad revenue while you can keep watching the content: win-win situation.
