Simple mass downloader

A simple but powerful mass downloader. Download links from multiple tabs at once, from the clipboard or selected text on web pages. Advanced filtering or multi-renaming options. User-defined automatic download folders.

Features & Capabilities

Simple Mass Downloader is a powerful yet lightweight Firefox extension designed for efficient batch downloading. Extract links from multiple tabs, selected web text, or clipboard data, then manage downloads with advanced filtering and customizable renaming options. It offers a special thumbnail view for images, user-defined automatic folders, and flexible download management including pause, resume, and server limit settings. Users can set custom download directories relative to their browser's default folder and define favorite folders for quick access.

Despite being in early development, this extension provides versatile workflows for collecting download links via the browser toolbar, context menus, or tabs dialogs. It supports intelligently filtering and renaming files for better organization. While it does not support private browsing or embedded video downloads, it offers a reliable solution for general mass downloads with continuous improvements underway.

User Reviews

Users praise the add-on as a powerful, configurable and fast mass/media downloader that works very well for many tasks. Common complaints across reviews are the restricted download-folder choices, unreliable file-extension/filters, and a sometimes cumbersome UI that requires repeated clicks or a steeper learning curve.
Pros
  • Highly configurable with many options for batch downloading
  • Fast and effective at scraping/downloading media (images, archives)
  • Many users find it powerful and, when it works, intuitive and reliable
Cons
  • Cannot freely choose arbitrary download folder (limited to download folder or its subfolders)
  • File-extension/filters are unreliable or fail to apply
  • User interface is cumbersome for some: many repetitive clicks and a learning curve
Recent reviews
Definitely a bit rough around the edges (I haven't been able to reload page links after having loaded them once, unless I reload the page itself or the extension), but the core functionality is really solid, and it's been the only thing that can reliably extract high-quality images in my use-case (view-only box.com pdfs from my university, which requires a 2fa login). As far as features go, I think a command line API could be really helpful, especially for automation, so you can have site-dependent scripts for sorting, renaming, organizing, (and maybe converting?) files. (Ofc there are some existing CLI tools for this, but they haven't worked for my use case; I think because they have issues integrating with browser instances). Thank you so much for the program!
