ShadowGag Firefox

ShadowGag

Detects is your comments are shadowbanned on 9gag

Features & Capabilities

Ever wonder if your 9gag comments are actually being seen by other users? ShadowGag helps you find out by detecting shadowbanned comments in real-time.

WHAT IT DOES ShadowGag automatically checks if your comments are shadowbanned by comparing what you see on the page with what 9gag's API actually returns. If your comment shows up for you but is missing from the API, chances are it's shadowbanned and other users can't see it.

KEY FEATURES

  • Automatic shadowban detection on all 9gag posts
  • Real-time analysis while you browse
  • Multiple ways to mark visible and shadowbanned comments
  • Custom JavaScript functions for your own styling
  • Works with 9gag's dark mode
  • No data collection or tracking
  • Everything happens in your browser

CUSTOMIZATION OPTIONS

  • Highlight shadowbanned comments with red borders or backgrounds
  • Mark visible comments with green indicators
  • Add text badges like "VISIBLE" or "SHADOWBANNED"
  • Write your own JavaScript code for custom styling
  • Adjust colors, borders, and visual effects however you want

PRIVACY AND SECURITY

  • Doesn't collect or send any personal data anywhere
  • Only reads your 9gag username to identify your comments
  • All processing happens locally on your computer
  • No external servers or data storage
  • Open source so you can see exactly what it does

HOW IT WORKS Pretty simple really:

  1. Figures out your username from the 9gag page
  2. Grabs comment data using 9gag's public API
  3. Compares what's visible with what the API returns
  4. Marks comments based on whether they're actually visible to others
  5. Styles them however you've set it up

PERFECT FOR

  • Anyone who wants to know if their comments are actually being seen
  • Users who notice their comments getting ignored more than usual
  • People curious about how 9gag moderates comments
  • Anyone who values transparency in social media

REQUIREMENTS

  • You need to be logged into 9gag
  • Only works on 9gag post pages (not the main feed)
  • Needs internet connection to check the API

IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER This extension has nothing to do with 9gag officially. It's just an independent tool made to give users more transparency. Use it responsibly and follow 9gag's rules. The developer isn't responsible for what happens if you use this.

User Reviews

Does not work. My comments say "shadowbanned" but they're still getting a bunch of likes, dislikes, and replies. And I can see them just fine from other browsers when I'm logged out. I'm on firefox ESR 140.7.0esr.

Doesn't work. My comments are labelled SHADOWBANNED, yet they have numerous likes, dislikes, replies, and I can see the comment when I use other browsers (not logged in).

Is ShadowGag Safe?

Risk impact
Risk impact measures the level of extra permissions an extension has access to. A low risk impact extension cannot do much harms, whereas a high risk impact extension can do a lot of damage like stealing your password, bypassing your security settings, and accessing your personal data. High risk impact extensions are not necessarily malicious. However, if they do turn malicious, they can be very harmful.

ShadowGag requires very minimum permissions.
