Onebit Journal: one line a day

By: ItsyBIT App
A calm daily journal and habit tracker. Your writing stays on your phone.

Overview

Features & Capabilities

Onebit is a calm daily journal and a gentle habit tracker in one place.

Every day it asks for very little: one line about the day, one photo if you want one, and a tick against the few small habits you're trying to keep. That's the whole ritual. It takes a minute, and a year later you have something worth re-reading.

WRITE ONE LINE
The Today screen opens on a blank line and today's date. Write a sentence. Attach a photo from your gallery if the day had one. That's it — there's no title, no tags, no formatting, nothing to fill in. The constraint is the feature: one line is short enough that you'll actually do it.

KEEP A FEW SMALL HABITS
Add the handful of habits you care about and tick them straight from the Today screen. The Habits screen shows each one's current streak and a week-at-a-glance strip, so you can see the shape of the last seven days without reading a single number.

LOOK BACK
History is a calendar of the days you wrote, so the gaps and the runs are both visible at a glance. Tap any day to revisit the line and the photo. Stats shows how the streaks are going.

AN EVENING NUDGE
Turn on a reminder and pick the time. It arrives at the time you chose — and if you've already written that day, it stays quiet.

YOUR WORDS STAY YOURS
This is the part worth being specific about. Onebit has no accounts and no sign-in, and no analytics or tracking of any kind. Your entries, your photos and your habits are never sent anywhere — they are written to this phone and they stay on it.

One thing can leave, and only if you ask for it. Switch on book lookup for a reading habit and the title you are typing is sent to openlibrary.org so it can offer matching books. Nothing travels with it: no identifier, nothing about you, none of your journal and none of your habit history. The setting is off until you turn it on, it is set per habit, and everything else works without it.

Photos you attach are copied into the app's own private storage, so they keep working even if you later clear out your gallery.

Backups are yours to move. Export writes your whole history — entries, habits and photos — to a single .zip you save wherever you like, and import reads it back, on this phone or the next one. No cloud in the middle.

OPEN AND INSPECTABLE
Onebit is built on an append-only event log: every line written, photo attached and habit ticked is a fact recorded in order, and every screen is calculated from that log. You can read that log yourself — there is a viewer in the app and a plain-text export — so the record the app actually runs on is something you can check line by line, not something you have to take on trust.

No ads. No subscriptions. No account. Just the day, in one line.
