Crescent Solitaire - Cards

Sixteen small fans of six cards, curved around eight foundation piles in the middle. That is the whole board, and the shape is where the name comes from.

Two full decks go into it, but eight cards never reach the fans at all: one Ace and one King of each suit are set out first as bases. That is why four piles climb from Ace to King while the other four descend from King to Ace, and why you are always building in two directions at once. The remaining ninety-six cards make the sixteen fans, six apiece, and only the card on top of a fan is ever in play.

Movement is deliberately narrow. One card at a time, onto a fan of the same suit, one rank above or one rank below. King and Ace join hands, so a sequence can turn the corner either way. An emptied fan is gone for good, because nothing ever refills it.

Reshuffles are the real resource
When the board stops moving you can reshuffle: the bottom card of every fan rotates to the top and the rest of the pile keeps its order. You get three of them per deal and no more. Spending one early is often the right call. Spending one because you did not look properly is how a winnable board gets thrown away. Note that a reshuffle clears the undo history, so look first.
