Review summary

Users like Save Tabs for its simplicity and ability to save and reopen tab groups, including normal, pinned, and container tabs, plus private windows and optional password protection. However, reliability is a major complaint: saved sessions can disappear after restore, password handling is buggy, and exporting or selectively restoring sessions is limited or broken. Additional issues include UI glitches, instability with large tab counts, and a risky erase-on-restore default. Overall, the idea is strong, but the extension is frequently unstable for many users.
Pros
  • Simple, lightweight and easy to use for saving/restoring tab groups.
  • Supports normal, pinned, and container tabs (with sorting/reordering).
  • Private windows support and password protection for saved sessions.
  • Uses built-in sync API and has a small footprint.
  • Saves and reopens groups (apps) easily after a restart.
Cons
  • Restored sessions can disappear or be unrecoverable, hurting reliability.
  • Password protection is buggy or unresponsive (may not accept correct passwords).
  • Export/backup options are limited or broken (JSON export fails; no per-session export).
  • Not a true manager; cannot selectively edit or restore individual saved lists.
  • Erase-on-restore is risky by default (requires holding Shift) and may cause data loss.

2025-11-22 Ch***** Possibly my fault, but don't believe so - while I like the options to select WHAT to save, this extension is NOT a MANAGER. You only can review a rudimentary list of all tabs, but there is no way to amend or change that list for a selective recovery. Worst: Just clicking on the file link immediately opens all listed tabs - again, if even they are still open. (Just happened when I tried to review my saved info - had now double the amount of apps open and needed to clean up the mess manually. Not a nice experience)

2025-11-05 mn***** Oh how I wish (a) the export as a .json worked (the download keeps failing) and (b) I could export existing/saved sessions one at a time without having to open that group of tabs.

2025-06-30 Do***** I give up. After some update a couple of weeks ago. Saved tabs need a password. After weeks of trying to get it working. I just cannot figure it out. If I save a group of tabs without a password. When I try to open that group it gives an error saying that it needs a password. If I save a group of tabs with a password. When I try to open that group, it asks be for the password. But no matter what I enter, it doesn't do anything. The correct password does nothing, no warning, no nothing. The incorrect password also gives no warning, no nothing. As far as I have found its the only tab saving plugin for Firefox that also saves the "pinned" state of tabs. Which is what I seek. After using this plugin for years. It looks like I need to let it go :(

2025-01-03 Fi***** Pretty neat and simple (89KB), but not too simple! Just what I need! 'Uses the built-in sync API', that's good. Some eye candy would be nice including dark themed because add-ons always run better with eye candy😉 [later] On activation the restore 'clean' check box, it removes pined tabs, so an option to prevent that would be nice too!

2024-11-20 Se***** Doesn't work at all. Can't save any session. GUI is buggy, some stupid error showing when I try to save session like "cannot recognize tabs".
