User reviews

RSS Sage-Like is praised as a modern continuation of the classic Sage RSS reader, offering an intuitive, low-bandwidth experience with syncing across Firefox devices. Users appreciate developer responsiveness but note missing features like advanced customization of tooltips and feed check timings. Common issues include cluttering bookmarks with feeds, difficulties in keyboard shortcuts for marking articles read, and lack of built-in article saving or subscribe toolbar. Despite some usability and feature limitations, it is valued highly for preserving Sage functionality in Firefox's newer ecosystem.
Pros
  • Faithful continuation of the original Sage RSS reader functionality making it easy for long-time Sage users to transition to modern Firefox versions.
  • Simple, intuitive, and low bandwidth design.
  • Supports syncing feeds across Firefox on multiple devices without requiring an external account.
  • Good developer responsiveness regarding privacy and user concerns.
  • Good integration with Firefox's sidebar and efficient at handling large numbers of feeds.
Cons
  • Lack of some advanced customization options such as tooltip display time and color customization.
  • No 24-hour time format option for periodic background feed checks.
  • Feeds are imported into bookmarks cluttering the search and bookmark areas.
  • Some usability issues with feed management like difficulty moving feeds into empty folders and marking articles as read using keyboard shortcuts.
  • No built-in support for saving articles or a toolbar button for subscribing to feeds, making some interactions less convenient.

Tooltips are not displayed when hovering over or clicking on the circle with the question mark. Accordingly, some of the settings are unclear. No language selection (if the extension supports languages other than English). No 24-hour time format for the "Periodic background feed check" field. Feeds (in my case, there are more than a thousand of them) are imported into bookmarks, and clutter up the search results there. Mozilla Firefox 140.0b1 (64-bit), RSS Sage-Like 3.10 (26 May 2025), Microsoft Windows 10.0.19045.5854.
