EpiNote is a universal tool for those involved in field research and cataloging of Jewish and other necropolises.

With the application you can:
• Create and edit catalogs of monuments directly on your mobile device.
• Save pictures of tombstones from the device camera in the catalog.
• Record names, dates of birth, death and other personal data from monuments.
• Write down the full texts of epitaphs in Hebrew, Russian, German and any other European languages.
• Add information about the size, material and condition of tombstones.
• Automatically determine the GPS coordinates of each tombstone.
• Export all collected data in the form of an Excel table for further processing and use on a computer.

1. CONVENIENCE AND SIMPLICITY
All you need to get started is a smartphone or tablet. A simple and intuitive interface will allow you to start cataloging immediately, without wasting time on lengthy study. No special knowledge or training is required to use the application.

2. VERSATILITY
• The application is suitable for both amateur purposes and professional field work on epigraphic expeditions. EpiNote provides researchers with all the tools needed to comprehensively document monuments scientifically and create a complete electronic cemetery catalog, from photographing gravestones to describing their size and material, and determining coordinates.
• A convenient text editor, designed taking into account the features of Jewish epitaphs, allows you to accurately transcribe inscriptions in accordance with academic standards. Among its features:
– Automatic line numbering
– Work with any languages ​​based on Hebrew, Latin and Cyrillic graphics.
– Quickly insert common abbreviations, abbreviations and ligatures.
– Use of vowels and diacritics.
– Adding symbols indicating the location of text on the monument.
• Export of text data in the form of an Excel file opens up wide possibilities for subsequent processing, use and publication of catalogs, including placement in various databases.
• Despite the fact that the application was originally developed to describe Jewish cemeteries, it can be successfully used to catalog almost any necropolis both in the European region and beyond.

3. RELIABILITY
The application automatically saves the data in the device memory after each change. You can also create a manual backup at any time. Even if the device turns off or crashes, all data can be restored from the saved files.

4. AUTONOMY
The application does not require an Internet connection and can work completely offline. Battery life is limited only by the charge on your device.

5. SAFETY
All collected data is stored only on your device. The application does not collect, use or transmit user information.

The application was developed as part of the field research program of the Sefer Center (www.sefercenter.org) for the study and preservation of Jewish cultural heritage in Russia, Eastern Europe and the post-Soviet space.
