Repo Folders for GitHub Firefox

Repo Folders for GitHub

Adds nested folders to your GitHub repository lists: file repos by drag & drop, filter the list in one click, find any repo from the toolbar. 100 % local, no token, no network request.

Modify request and response headers. No ads, no malware.

Features & Capabilities

Past thirty or so repositories, GitHub's flat list turns into a wall of names. Repo Folders adds real nested folders to your repository lists, on your profile as well as on your organizations, without ever letting a single byte leave your browser.

What it changes

  • A Folders panel sits above your repository list, showing how many repos each folder holds.
  • Drag & drop: drop a repo onto a folder. Or click the Classer badge on the repo row if you would rather click than drag.
  • Subfolders as deep as you like: Clients / Client A / legacy works just fine.
  • One-click filtering: click a folder and the list shows only its repos (subfolders included).
  • Instant search in the panel (name, description, language) and from the toolbar icon, which searches every repo it knows about, handy from any tab. Arrow keys to move, Enter to open.
  • JSON export and import to back up your layout or carry it between Firefox and Chrome.
How it works

The extension simply reads the repositories rendered on the page, your private ones included, since you are already signed in to GitHub, and remembers which folder you filed them under. There is no network request, no call to the GitHub API, no token to create, no account to open.

Privacy

Nothing leaves your browser. Your folders live in the extension's local storage and disappear when you uninstall it. No telemetry, no remote scripts.

Good to know

  • A repo belongs to a single folder: the layout stays readable, like a real file tree.
  • Filtering applies to the page you are on. If a folder holds repos sitting on GitHub's next page, they will not show up in that filter. The toolbar popup, on the other hand, sees them all.
  • Independent extension, not affiliated with GitHub, Inc. "GitHub" is a trademark of GitHub, Inc.
